The latest shoe to fall in the gathering storm swirling around the Hillary Clinton email server came out Wednesday night, according to the Daily Beast. The top secret material on the server consisted of NSA signals intelligence, some of the most secret and sensitive that the United States government possesses. Moreover, evidence exists that the markers that indicated that the documents were top secret were stripped off, likely by a member of Ms. Clinton’s staff. The theory is that Clinton could then claim that she never knowingly disseminated classified information on her unsecured server.
In the meantime, investigators are started to focus on long term Clinton aide, confidant, and close friend Huma Abedin, Politico reports. No evidence exists that she was the Clinton staffer who doctored the top secret material. But she did have access to the server and had her own account on it. She would be the one person that Clinton could trust to undertake such a sensitive and illegal task.
Also, if Abedin were compelled to take the fall for Clinton, it would not be unprecedented. Susan McDougal, the wife of Clinton business partner Jim McDougal, went to prison rather than rat out Bill Clinton about the Whitewater affair. Abedin might be loyal enough to do the same thing for Hillary if it meant that her old friend’s hopes of becoming president could be salvaged. Besides, President Clinton wound up giving McDougal a pardon. A second President Clinton could be disposed to render Abedin the same service if she agreed to take the fall.
