The Good Dinosaur is Disney-Pixar’s latest animated adventure, focusing on a dinosaur named Arlo who’s trying to find his way back home with the help of a young boy named Spot. Starring as Arlo is Raymond Ochoa from the Disney Channel series I Didn’t Do It and Good Luck Charlie, and he joined LA Fan Cultures Examiner for an e-mail interview to discuss having the lead role in this new family film.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to work for Pixar in any way, so being the lead in one of their films is the best achievement and proudest piece of work I have ever done,” enthused the teen actor. “A real dream come true!”
How would he compare his voice acting to his live-action work? “I would say I am pretty experienced in voice over work, because I not only have voiced my own characters in film and TV, but I also do a lot of ADR work – or Automatic Dialog Replacement – for many films,” he told us. “Working in voice-over helps bring an animator’s drawings to life with your voice, where in live-action, it is you making your own character.”
“I have seen almost every Pixar movie, and they have never focused on just dinosaurs, so it is very unique,” Raymond said of The Good Dinosaur‘s appeal. “I would tell people that in the movie the scenery is amazing, the story line is very heart-warming, and involves a great journey filled with much action between Arlo and his best friend Spot.”
“One of my first movies at five years old involved me playing with and having to name multiple dinosaurs, because my character really loved them,” he continued. “After that I became really fascinated with dinosaurs, especially the T-Rex. I owned many action figures and watched anything I could that involved dinosaurs.”
He comes to the project with an extensive history for the Disney brand, whether it’s in television or the popular Disney Infinity video game series, which has been a great association. “Working with Disney multiple times makes me happy, because it shows me that they enjoy my work,” Raymond said. “It has been an incredible experience having worked on several of their movies, a few guest star roles on their Disney Channel shows, and now this awesome movie!”
As we wait for the premiere of The Good Dinosaur, Raymond has other projects in the works as well. “I always put acting as my main priority,” he said, “but when I have free time, my three older brothers and I perform together in our group The Ochoa Boyz around the United States, which I love.
“Our next big performance will be at ‘Winter Lights’ on December 6th at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California,” he continued. “My brothers and I are also working on a movie together that we will begin filming soon called Triumph and I guest starred on Instant Mom that will air on TV Land [on] November 14th.”
The Good Dinosaur will premiere in theatres on Thanksgiving Day.
