Tonight’s Spike episode of “Ink Master” was titled “Like a Moth to the Flame.” The season six theme is “Master vs. Apprentice,” where each artist will be working with or against their teacher or their pupil. Some apprentices are gone, and some masters have been told to pack their bags and leave. As always, the judges will be Dave Navarro, Oliver Peck and Chris Nunez. The last artist standing will receive $100,000, a feature in Inked Magazine and the best prize of all; the enviable title of “Ink Master.” The field of eighteen is down to ten as Big Ceeze was eliminated last week, as Craig finally got redemption for his master’s demise.
For the Flash Challenge, the test topic this week is saturation. They must work with fire and in teams of two. Craig will assign the skulls and paired himself with Chris because he wants to win. Duffy & Kruseman did a good job and it was liked by the judges. Tyler & Katie got a so-so approval. Matt & Erik did not find favor with the judges. Chris & Craig did not get a good rating either. Marisa & Dave had the best marks and won the challenge. They will select the skulls for the elimination challenge and maybe Dave will get the respect he feels he deserves from the other artists.
In the loft, Chris tried to coach Dave and Marisa as to who they should target. Dave already feels that Craig has no respect for him as an artist and will give him the hardest challenge with Matt as second. The guest judge was Justin Weatherholtz, of Kings Avenue Tattoo in NYC and Long Island. For the saturation challenge, they must all tattoo Neptune the God of the Sea. Neptune has been known to blow over ships and has a bad temper.
Matt’s canvas has only sat for an hour for tattoos, she wants a rib tattoo and wants Neptune’s trident left out. She refused to change where the tattoo is going, and told him she has a high tolerance for pain. With six hours to tattoo, the scene has changed a bit, because now targets are changing and Tyler is not having a good day tattooing, as his head is not in the game. He is upset with Dave and Marisa, his girl who gave him a black and gray tattoo.
At the critique, the four judges had so much criticism for the artists. Dave was first and his tattoo was not that good, but considered one of the best of the day. Craig was questioned about the canvas he was given, his tattoo was horrible. Matt’s looked like some dude taking a piss, is what Dave Navarro had to say about it. Katie’s was cartoonish and not a good representation of water. Duffy’s hand looked like a bag of udders. Kruseman did saturation but the anatomy was out of line. Chris did an awesome job and each judge liked it. Tyler’s was weird liking. Erik did a good job but his was unfinished looking. Marissa’s did not have good saturation. Chris won the best tattoo of the day.
They were sent to the loft awaiting the decision of the human canvas jury. When Oliver came to the loft, he asked for Duffy, Marisa, Tyler, Craig and Matt. The human canvas jury determined that Craig had the worst tattoo. His canvas liked her tattoo and gave kudos to Craig. But as Tyler went off on the judges, Marisa told him to apologize, which he did. The judges rescinded the votes for him and then as Dave told Marisa she did not have what it takes to be “Ink Master.”
