For the 5th year in a row, hundreds of inns and B&Bs across the USA will honor active and retired veterans over Veteran’s Day with free stays in the U.S and Canada. In the largest known effort within the lodging industry to honor active military and veterans, several hundred innkeepers in the United States and Canada will open their doors with complimentary stays to say “thank you” to those who are presently serving or served in the past to protect our nations through the B&Bs for Vets program. Complimentary rooms will be offered on either November 10 or November 11th. Participating inns are listed at www.BandBsforVets.org. To date nearly 30 inns and B&Bs in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine have signed up to offer free rooms to veterans. Each of these inns are within an easy drive from Boston.
Many inns and B&Bs dedicate the whole property to free rooms for the B&Bs for Vets program. Many more innkeepers will make special offers for vets to extend their stay for extra days or throughout the month. Other innkeepers are stepping up the game and working within their communities to recruit partners and offer bonus fun to the vets staying at their inns/B&Bs. For example, the Oxford House Inn in Fryeburg, Maine is offering two complimentary rooms to veterans on Wednesday November 11, breakfast included plus offering additional consecutive nights at a 20% discount. And the Historic Deerfield Inn has made ten rooms available on November 10th or 11th, free for veterans, all with private bath and two are handicapped accessible and breakfast is included. On Cape Cod, The Woods Hole Inn is offering one FREE night during week of November 11th. At last check they had Sunday, November 8th OR Monday, November 9th open, and are also taking names for wait list in case we are able to open more rooms closer to veterans day. Additionally, veterans are offered 10% off any additional nights combined with the free ones. There are hundreds of offers from inns and B&Bs across Canada available at BBCanada;s B&Bs for Vets program too.
The B&Bs for Vets program started in 2008 when Kathleen Panek, co-owner of the Gillum House B&B and a handful of other innkeepers in West Virginia opened their doors to veterans and their spouses in honor of Veteran’s Day. This year the Association of Independent Hospitality Professionals will coordinate and promote the B&Bs for Vets program in conjunction with the Professional Association of Innkeepers International (PAII), BBCanada.com, BedandBreakfast.com, BnBFinder.com’s Salute Our Heroes, and many state B&B associations.
Innkeepers throughout the country will list their B&Bs for Vets offers at www.BandBsforVets.org. To date more than 150 inns and B&Bs from 38 states have registered to offer free rooms in the U.S and more than 200 inns/B&Bs are on the BBCanada B&Bs for Vets list too. Rooms fill up quickly and new inns and B&Bs are added to the list daily. Active military and veterans interested in reserving a room are asked to contact directly the inn/B&B where they wish to stay. Proof of military service will be required, and all policies of the inn will be enforced for free stays.
