If you try to find Hulk Hogan anywhere on the WWE website you will be out of luck, as the site has been wiped clean of anything Hulk Hogan. His name has even disappeared from the WWE Hall of Fame in an apparent attempt to make Hulk Hogan an extinct species with the WWE.
So why is Hogan being treated like he is the source of a plague? Apparently he was taped saying the “N” word when referring to his daughter Brooke’s boyfriend eight years ago and the audio somehow surfaced recently. Hogan is allegedly heard at the tail end of his leaked sex tape in what is described as a “racist N-word-filled tirade.”
According to MSN News on July 24, “The transcripts of Hogan’s sex tape likely stem from his ongoing lawsuit with Gawker, which published an excerpt of the tape in 2012.” Hogan is suing Gawker for allegedly invading his privacy and he is looking for $100 million in this lawsuit for the website publishing it.
When the news first broke out that the WWE has severed all ties with Hogan, he took to Twitter and sent out this cryptic message, “In the storm I release control,God and his Universe will sail me where he wants me to be,one love. HH.”
According to Fox News, the WWE released a statement on Friday after terminating the contract of Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea. While they have not given an official reason for severing their ties with Hogan, they did say:
“WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide.”
In another report, taken from transcripts of the sex tape, Hogan is cited as calling Dwayne Johnson, who is also known as “The Rock,” the “N-word” and “Sambo.” Hogan made a statement apologizing for his choice of words, which was published in People Magazine. He said:
“This is not who I am,” the statement continues. “I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise. I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs.”
Hulk Hogan was a major factor in the WWE becoming so popular, as back in his heyday he was a household name. It is sad to see him go out like this, but at the same time it is sending a message that really needs to be heard. It is just not OK to talk like that.
