Howl-O-Scream starts on September 25 and runs all the way through Halloween on select nights at Busch Gardens Tampa, and this year it has a line-up of seven haunted houses, including one brand-new option. Check out the list accompanying this article to learn a bit about each one. In addition to the haunted houses, expect to be accosted by ghouls on the streets as Busch Gardens rolls out Slash Mobs to stalk you throughout the park.
If you’d like to actually go inside the new house, Unearthed: Scarlett’s Revenge, jump here to join me via Scream Cam as I try to make it out alive. Go here for an interview with house creator Rob Cowie of “Blair Witch Project” fame. You’ll see some props in the Unearthed: Scarlett’s Revenge queue line by going here.
Circus of Superstition
Clowns. They’re scary. They’re creepy. Sometimes they’re even homicidal. The clowns inside the Circus of Superstition House certainly aren’t the friendly sort you see at a kids’ birthday party, although they do deliver plenty of surprises. I love the zany, colorful feel of this house.
This garden is dead, and you might be, too, if you don’t watch your step. This house was new for 2014, and the spooky Victorian mansion and its creepy grounds are back for a 2015 encore.
This house is all about fresh meat. A little too fresh, maybe, and if you don’t watch your step, you might just end up on the menu. This house has some good jump scares, but I love the fact that it also presents several creepy scenes.
Unearthed: Scarlett’s Revenge
This is the new haunted house for Howl-O-Scream 2015, and it’s in a brand-new location by Gwazi. Scarlett is this year’s icon, and she’s just as terrifying in person as she is in the commercials. I had a preview of this house and met her the day before opening, and she definitely puts the Scream in Scream Cam.
Death Water Bayou
I love the Voodoo Queen and Death Water Bayou. This house has lovely set design, but the problem is that you likely won’t get a chance to enjoy it because it’s hard to look around when you’re being attacked on all side.
Zombie Mortuary has been around for a while, and I’m always still intrigued by the way it literally puts you down into a grave. As you can see in the photo, these zombies don’t just bite you. They’re often armed with weapons!
Zombie Containment Unit
Zombie Containment Unit gives you a chance to be the one on the attack. Armed with a gun, you get to take on the zombies. Beware, because they move faster than you might expect so they’re most definitely not easy targets.
You’re not safe at Howl-O-Scream, even if you don’t venture into the haunted houses. As long as you’re in the park, the ghouls will come it you. Beware the Slash Mobs roaming around and waiting to turn on unsuspecting victims.
