The weather, they say, has been unpredictable of late, and so all good Puzzle Pirates are advised to remain ashore. Not that wise recommendations have ever kept a pirate from pillaging–so there’s another incentive. If you want your Seal o’ Piracy for August 2015, the only way you’ll manage it is by…
Completing 10 parlor games.
Parlor games! What are parlor games? Why, they’re any game you might play from the parlor games table! Those’d be Hearts, Treasure Drop, Rumble, Poker, Swordfighting, Drinking, and Spades. Some of them, in some situations, you’ll need a parlor badge, or, on the Cerulean Ocean, a subscription; otherwise, you’ll need to wait for that game’s freeplay day to come around. But playing Swordfighting and rumble is always free in a one-on-one challenge situation.
Now, the more interesting question is, when does your participation count toward your Seal o’ Piracy? Your friendly neighborhood Examiner has been busily researching this question and is happy to inform you that…
Tournaments, table play, and one-on-one challenges count! As you’d no doubt suspect, games entered via a tournament board, a gaming table, or by clicking on another pirate and sending them a challenge do increment your count toward the magic number ten.
Challenges to swabbies and old salts count! Sending a rumble, swordfighting, treasure drop or drinking challenge to a non-playing pirate absolutely counts. Doesn’t matter whether you’re in an inn, at the docks, or on shipboard–it counts. That’s how I got my badge for my pirates on the Ice and Jade Oceans. Always a relief on an underpopulated ocean to know that acquiring your trophy doesn’t require having other player pirates around!
The Swordfighting/Rumble/Drining challenge missions count! I hoped, but didn’t expect, to be able to get the trophy purely by getting my Opal pirate through playing this mission repeatedly. Nevertheless, upon completing her 10th Knockout, she added this month’s Seal o’ Piracy to her collection.
(Note: I haven’t tested “Play with Swords!” or “Get Ready to Rumble!” for Sealworthiness. Past experience suggests that they would not count, but the only way to know is to try…)
Monster frays count! This was the real surprise, and I wasn’t even going to try testing it. It didn’t seem at all likely! But some friends on the Cerulean Ocean invited me along for some zombie hunting while I was in the midst of hunting the seal. I’d already logged a number of Rumble Challenge missions before their invitation, and a few one-on-one challenges with other pirates waiting for the monster fray to fill up. But once it did, the second melee with the zombie crew awarded me my the August 2015 trophy.
Emboldened by this victory, I set sail with one of my Meridian Ocean pirates and discovered that…
Sea battles do NOT count! Which is just as you’d expect. Still, after the discovery about monster frays, it seemed anything might be possible. Nevertheless, I did not go on to try testing for the validity of sea monster frays of any type. You may if you wish; by all means let us know what you discover!
In short, this month’s Seal o’ Piracy is a most versatile trophy to acquire. There are so many ways to get it, you might as well take your favorite path to victory. Have fun!
