The Brown family and the Houston family are reportedly bickering over what kind of funeral they want Bobbi Kristina to have. The funeral plans keep changing and there is tension between the two families because neither side is completely happy with the arrangements that have been made. People magazine is reporting on July 29 that multiple sources have told them there is major family conflict going on behind the scenes.
The families will hold two memorial services for Bobbi Kristina – one on Saturday morning in Georgia and another one on Monday in New Jersey where Bobbi Kristina will be laid to rest. Much of the conflict revolves around who should and should not be allowed to attend. A July 27 article in Hollywood Life provides an inside look at the infighting and the family strife. It seems that both the Browns and the Houstons are making demands. Cissy Houston and Bobby Brown in particular, disagree on who can and cannot attend. Bobbi Kristina’s grandmother, Cissy, the Houston family matriarch, has made it clear to Bobby Brown that she does not want certain Brown family members to attend. The octogenarian has also let it be known that she expects other members of the Houston family to support her stance.
Given the Brown family’s (especially Bobby Brown’s sister Leolah Brown’s) proven track record for causing scenes, creating trouble, and making spectacles of themselves, it’s not hard to understand why Cissy Houston feels this way. Nevertheless, the Browns are Bobbi Kristina’s relatives too. And Hollywood Life’s source says Bobby Brown is not going to deny anyone in either family the opportunity to pay their last respects. Adding to the conflict are reports that Pat Houston has invites a host of celebrity guests whose names she is keeping a closely guarded secret, according to CeleBuzz.com on July 29.
Another major area of disagreement centers around the type of funeral the Houstons want Bobbi Kristina to have. They want Bobbi Kristina’s memorial to be a themed event honor of the school prom she never attended, and the Sweet 16 party she never had. Bobby Brown vehemently objects to a funeral with a party-like atmosphere. They feel the festive ceremony the Houstons are calling a “Sweet 16 Celebration of Life.” Is highly disrespectful and feel Bobbi Kristina’s funeral should be a more somber, low-key affair. One would think that as Bobbi Kristina’s father and next of kin, Bobby Brown should have the final say. But Pat Houston wants to run the show. Meanwhile, longtime family friend Tyler Perry is trying hard to keep peace between the Houstons and the Browns.
