St. Patrick’s Day is more than a month away, but now is the time to start planning your St. Paddy’s Day party! Since St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Thursday this year (2016,) you will first need to determine if you wish to have your party the weekend before or after St. Patrick’s Day or on St. Patrick’s Day “itself” March 17th. Once you have your date selected, then it is time to select invitations and send them out. (It’s appropriate to send party invitations two to four weeks ahead of the party, even if you are using e-vites.)
Next, it is time to start menu planning. Generally speaking, you cannot go wrong with a traditional St. Patrick’s Day menu. Appetizers can range from Guiness Cheese Dip to “Irish” Egg Rolls (yes, really!) Of course, corned beef, potatoes and cabbage are traditional Irish-American dishes for St. Patrick’s Day, and, for dessert Classic Chocolate Guinness Cake**! (And don’t forget to say the traditional Irish blessing before you eat!)
Decorating and color schemes are easy! Green is the color of the day, and most party supply stores such as Party City have a variety of decorations and table items such as disposable dishes readily available. Don’t forget balloons, party favors, and a centerpiece such as a tinsel leprechaun hat or fresh flowers. Finally, don’t forget some background music! Irish groups from U2 to Celtic Thunder have cds readily available to give your party the true Irish spirit!
