On the outskirts of Los Angeles, California a little Chihuahua blend didn’t really live; instead he existed in a hazardous waste disposal company and refused to let anyone near him. When Hope for Paw’s founder, Eldad Hagar was called to help the little pooch get out of the extremely dangerous situation, Eldad and rescue partner Lisa Chiarelli had to don protective gear before entering the toxic environment.
The first encounter didn’t end well, when the extremely frightened dog refused to be captured, but before escaping through a small hole in the fence, bit Eldad; often an occupational hazard of rescuing the most scared, abused and neglected. Still, that behavior doesn’t discourage Eldad, and on the second day, the rescuers changed tactics and after a few stressful moments, Lisa was able to secure Eldad’s “lucky leash” around the little dog’s neck. Before long, Lisa was able to win him over as the dog’s hunger outweighed his fear.
Dubbed Angelo, the dog was quite sick after having lived in the toxic environment, but like so many “happily ever after” stories, Angelo has recovered and is ready for adoption. Only two-years old, he loves people, dogs and toys. He is currently being fostered by the Shelter Hope Pet Shop at Janss MarketPlace, Thousand Oaks. Make sure to spend a few minutes and watch his amazing video of one dog’s deep despair turning into happiness. If only all dumped dogs could be so lucky.
