Those of you familiar with Verizon know that the company tends to have a lot of say when it comes to how a phone looks/works/feels. To meet that demand, Motorola has two newly updated Droid phones that are not only really good Verizon phones, they’re really good phones. If you are looking for a really spiffy new phone for that special someone in your life, the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 are two very good choices.
The Turbo 2 seems aptly named when looking at its specs. Inside, there’s Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor with 2.0 GHz Octa-core CPUs backed up by 3GB of RAM. The phone comes with either 32GB or 64GB built in and there’s room for up to a 2TB microSD in the external slot. Your view is taken care of by a 5.4” AMOLED shatterproof, 1440p Quad HD screen. A quick note about this screen; it may very well be the brightest screen on earth. Viewing it in full sunlight is not a problem in the slightest. Viewing it in a dark room can be a little intense. Pictures are handled by a 21 MP camera out back and a 5 MP camera with flash on the front. Powering this hot rod is a 3760 mAh battery that should last up to 48 hours between charges. It is also designed to suck up 13 hours worth of power when plugged into a Motorola TurboPower charger for 15 minutes. Verizon only. $624 off contract.
The Maxx 2 is kind of like the little brother to the Turbo 2. It is very closely related, with many of the same bells and whistles, it’s just that they are not quite as fully developed as they are in the Turbo 2. The Maxx 2 features a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core CPU and 2GB of RAM. The Maxx 2 is limited to 16GB of built-in storage with room for up to a 128GB microSD card. The screen is a 5.5” 1080p Full HD, 403 ppi, Corning Gorilla Glass 3. (This screen is also very bright.) When it comes to taking pictures, Maxx 2 features a 21 MP camera out back with a 5 MP up front. Like the Turbo 2, the Maxx 2 battery (3630 mAh) is designed to last for 48 hours of mixed use between charges. Verizon only. $384 off contract.
