If this article is correct, Hillary Clinton’s email scandal just got significantly worse. According to John Solomon’s reporting, “the total number of her private emails identified by an ongoing State Department review as having contained classified data has ballooned to 60.” As recently as last week, Democrat officials were worried about Hillary’s political viability because 2 top secret emails had been found.
What’s worse for Hillary is that “that figure is current through the end of July and is likely to grow as officials wade through a total of 30,000 work-related emails that passed through her personal email server, officials said.” Top Democrat officials have legitimate reasons to worry about Hillary’s political viability.
Hillary was decisively defeated in 2008 by Barack Obama. At the time, Hillary was considered a top tier presidential candidate, mostly because she had 100% name ID, she had pulled the Clinton machine back together again and because people liked Bill Clinton. Then she ran a terrible campaign. This time, she cleared the field, which wasn’t difficult thanks to the 2 trouncings Democrats suffered through in 2010 and 2014.
There are 60 fewer Democrats in the House, 15 fewer Democrats in the Senate and dozen fewer Democrat governors. That’s why Hillary is the closest thing resembling a viable presidential candidate that the Democrats have.
This morning on Fox News Sunday, Arthur Brooks, the president of the American Enterprise Institute, noted that candidates that’ve lost in the past don’t win ever again. He then noted that the candidates bandied about included Al Gore, John Kerry and Joe Biden. Brooks then mockingly questioned whether they’d consider “dusting off Dukakis” to run if Hillary faltered again.
Because several of these emails contain highly sensitive information, this scandal isn’t going away anytime soon. Expert investigators think the investigation will last at least through the rest of this year and possibly longer.
It’s worth noting that Bill Clinton wasn’t taken down by scandals, partially because he was a better politician, partially because none of his scandals involved national security and, finally, because he served before social media and the conservative blogosphere existed.
Hillary isn’t the talented politician that her husband was and she has the misfortune of living when social media frequently pushes stories that the mainstream media is forced into covering.
That’s why it isn’t a stretch to think that there’s a lefthander warming up in the Democrats’ bullpen.
