A new audit reveals that out of the 4.5 million Twitter followers notated on Hillary Clinton’s Twitter account, 41 percent of those followers are fake. These are the thumb-less bots and trolls that are marked as “followers” on the presidential hopeful’s social media site.
While Hilary Clinton has an astronomical amount of fake followers, there is one presidential candidate from the Republican Party that has more fake then real followers on Twitter. You might be surprised to hear who this is, but each and every candidate has their fair share of followers that don’t actually exist, reports HNGN.com on November 9.
The audit found that the democratic front-runner has far more fake Twitter followers than any other Democratic presidential candidate. The audit was recently reported by the Washington Examiner who revealed that only 59 percent of Clinton’s Twitter followers are actually living and breathing people with thumbs to tweet.
This audit was conducted by TwitterAudit, which uses various metrics on a random sample of a person’s Twitter followers to determine the numbers of fake vs. real followers they have on Twitter. Fake followers are mostly there for numbers and usually can’t “like,” “retweet” or favor a post. Steve Doocy from “Fox and Friends” live on Tuesday morning noted that 41 percent of Hillary’s followers are “missing their thumbs” for tweeting!
While almost all Twitter accounts have some fake followers, thanks to an online world full of bots and trolls, politicians are known for buying Twitter followers. This makes the politician look more popular with the social media sites than they actually are in reality.
It is Bernie Sanders, the man breathing down Hillary’s neck for the democratic ticket, who has the most authentic Twitter followers out of all the presidential hopefuls from both parties. This helps explains why Sanders edged out Clinton in social media mentions during and after the first Democratic debate for the 2016 election.
Sanders boast 89 percent real people following him on Twitter with only 11 percent being fake Twitter entities coming from bots and trolls. It is New Jersey Governor Chris Christie who tops every major candidate running for the Oval Office with having the most fake Twitter followers. His fake followers outnumber his real followers with 57 percent fake and 43 percent real people marked as followers on his Twitter page.
Donald Trump has 64 percent real and 36 percent fake followers, with Marco Rubio having 74 percent real and 36 percent fake. Ben Carson has 76 percent of the folks following him deemed as real and Ted Cruz has 75 percent real followers.
