One of the premier winemaking and grape-producing regions in the country, the Geneva area of Northeast Ohio (located along the shores of Lake Erie) is home to more than 1500 acres of grapes. Clevelanders get the chance to celebrate the harvesting of the local grapes and honor the area’s wine-producing and grape-growing industries at the 52nd annual Grape Jamboree being held in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. Geneva is located approximately 50 miles east of Cleveland.
Taking place on Geneva’s Main Street, visitors to the Jamboree will be able to sample fresh grape juice in addition to wine and other grape products. Serving wines from Geneva area wineries, the wine tasting will be located at the Geneva Community Center at 72 W. Main St. from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Cost for the wine tasting is $15 and you will receive a souvenir wine tasting glass (while supplies last). In the past, some of the participating wineries have included Ferrante Winery, The Lakehouse Inn & Winery, The Winery at Spring Hill, Virant Family Winery, Deers Leap Winery and Emerine Estates.
There will be parades both days — Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Other activities at the Grape Jamboree include a pie eating contest (Saturday at 5 p.m.), the Miss Grapette pageant, a corn hole tournament (Sunday), a baby contest, a car show (Saturday), a craft fair featuring over 100 crafters, a tractor pull (Sunday), a softball tournament, the Run For the Grapes 5K Run (Sunday) and an Art Show.
A featured attraction (and always a big draw) will be the Grape Stomping Contest on both days. In addition to the adult competition (12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1:15 p.m. on Sunday), there will be a junior competition (Saturday at noon and Sunday at 12:45 p.m.). This is a sight you don’t want to miss.
The Geneva Grape Jamboree will also feature live entertainment including performances by the Phillip Fox Band, the Simba Jordan Band, Rick & the Allnighters and Hotel California (an Eagles tribute band). There will also be performances by the magician team of Jason & Stacy. The Jamboree will also offer amusement rides. All-day wristbands are $15. A family strip of 24 ride tickets is $20 and individual ride tickets are $1 each. Adult rides will be 3 tickets and kids’ rides will be 2 tickets. Of course, there will be plenty of food and beverages available for purchase.
