Hayden Panettiere stepped out for the first time since entering treatment for postpartum depression looking happy and healthy. Panettiere attended the IBF World Heavyweight Championship boxing match in Duesseldorf, Germany, Nov. 28 to support fiance Wladimir Klitschko.
Klitschko, 39, was beaten by British boxer Tyson Fury, 27, who ended Klitschko’s nine-year reign as heavyweight champ. But Panettiere looked gorgeous flaunting her 40-pound post-baby weight loss in a striped sweater and short skirt.
Hayden, who had gained 40 pounds while pregnant, recently showed off her post-baby weight loss on Twitter. “Feeling like I’m #finally coming back in to my own body!” Panettiere tweeted along with a photo of herself in a pair of skinny jeans.
Hayden voluntarily checked into treatment for postpartum depression in October 2015 after admitting she suffered from severe depression and mood swings, as Examiner reported. Panettiere gave birth to daughter Kaya in December 2014.
“It’s something I can very much relate to,” said Hayden (see video). “It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you are told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child; I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never had those feelings. Some women do.”
Hayden said her PPD expressed itself in different ways but was still debilitating. “You don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on,” she said. “It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know they’re not alone and it does heal.”
Hayden said while many people brush off postpartum depression as a temporary hormone disruption, it can be much more serious and must be addressed:
[PPD is] something that’s completely uncontrollable. It’s really painful and really scary and women need a lot of support.”
Panettiere, who’s engaged to the 6-foot-6 Wladimir Klitschko, previously said she’d love to have three more children with Wlad, who’s Ukrainian. Hayden said Klitschko has been a supportive partner.
“If Wlad figured out a way to get pregnant and he could have the baby, we would be going right now, no problem,” Hayden joked. The 5-foot-2 Panettiere, who said she started out at 106 pounds, weighed more than 145 pounds while pregnant.
Before getting pregnant, Hayden, a former vegetarian, was in the best shape of her life, thanks to a portion-controlled diet and daily workouts, which included Bikram yoga, weightlifting, walking, running, hiking, swimming and Pilates, Celebrity Health Fitness reported.
