Hayden Panettiere has checked into a treatment center for postpartum depression, her rep confirmed in a statement Oct. 13. Panettiere, who recently showed off her post-baby weight loss on Twitter in a pair of skinny jeans, checked herself into the hospital.
“Hayden Panettiere is voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center as she is currently battling postpartum depression,” said her rep. “She asks that the media respect her privacy during this time.” Panettiere is taking medical leave from her TV show, “Nashville,” as she gets treated for PPD.
Hayden, who had gained 40 pounds while pregnant, proudly showed off her post-baby weight loss on Twitter Oct. 10. “Feeling like I’m #finally coming back in to my own body!” Panettiere tweeted along with a photo of herself in a pair of skinny jeans.
Hayden’s hospitalizations comes two weeks after she admitted battling postpartum depression following the December 2014 birth of daughter Kaya Klitschko. Panettiere’s TV character, Juliette Barnes on “Nashville,” also suffers from extreme postpartum depression.
It’s something I can very much relate to. It’s something a lot of women experience.
When [you are told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child; I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never had those feelings. Some women do.”
Hayden said her PPD expressed itself in different ways but was still debilitating, as Examiner has reported. “You don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on,” she said. “It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know they’re not alone and it does heal.”
Hayden said while many people brush off postpartum depression as a temporary hormone disruption, it can be much more serious and must be addressed:
[PPD is] something that’s completely uncontrollable. It’s really painful and really scary and women need a lot of support.”
Panettiere, who’s engaged to heavyweight boxing champion, the 6-foot-6 Wladimir Klitschko, previously said she’d love to have three more children with Wlad. Hayden said Klitschko has been a supportive partner.
“If Wlad figured out a way to get pregnant and he could have the baby, we would be going right now, no problem,” Hayden joked. The 5-foot-2 Panettiere, who said she started out at 106 pounds, weighed more than 145 pounds while pregnant.
Before getting pregnant, Hayden, a former vegetarian, was in the best shape of her life, thanks to a portion-controlled diet and daily workouts, which included Bikram yoga, weightlifting, walking, running, hiking, swimming and Pilates.
