Hayden Panettiere battled postpartum depression the same way her “Nashville” character, Juliette Barnes, did on her TV show. Panettiere admitted suffering postpartum depression after giving birth to daughter Kaya Klitschko in December 2014.
“It’s something I can very much relate to,” Hayden said on Live! With Kelly and Michael. “It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you are told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child; I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never had those feelings. Some women do.”
Panettiere said her PPD expressed itself in different ways but was still debilitating, as Examiner has reported. “You don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on,” she said. “It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know they’re not alone and it does heal.”
Hayden said while many people brush off postpartum depression as a temporary hormone disruption, it can be much more serious and must be addressed. “It’s something that’s completely uncontrollable,” said Panettiere. “It’s really painful and really scary and women need a lot of support.”
Panettiere, who’s engaged to heavyweight boxing champion, the 6-foot-6 Wladimir Klitschko, said she’d love to have three more children with Wlad. Hayden, who appears to have lost the 40 pounds she gained while pregnant, said Klitschko has been a supportive partner.
If Wlad figured out a way to get pregnant and he could have the baby, we would be going right now, no problem.
When I was pregnant, he did this thing where he would suck in his stomach and then I would put my stomach to his so that he could feel when she was moving, almost like she was in his stomach. He wanted to feel what it was like to have a baby as close to him as it was to me.”
The 5-foot-2 Hayden, who said she started out at 106 pounds, weighed more than 145 pounds while pregnant. Panettiere, a longtime workout fanatic, said the weight gain bothered her less than her swollen feet.
“The worst part is that my feet are still size 5 and they’re going, ‘What’s going on with all this weight?'” said Hayden. “They’re about to snap from underneath me with the strain.”
Before getting pregnant, Panettiere, a former vegetarian, was in the best shape of her life, thanks to a portion-controlled diet and daily workouts, which included Bikram yoga, weightlifting, walking, running, hiking, swimming and Pilates, Celebrity Health Fitness reported.
