Central Pennsylvania has a problem. People who are interested in moving there seem not to know what is going on there that is exceptional. For example, there is a wonderful medical school there. While there is still the need for the students to learn a trade at The Milton Hershey School, now many of these children go to college.
Harrisburg is the 5th friendliest small city in America by the real estate company, Motovo. They used several criteria for their result: violent crime rate, gifts to charity, bars per capita and social
media, among others. Other things which influenced this were, friendliness and quality of life.
Harrisburg was ranked as third Pennsylvania city for business and careers by forbes.com. Forbes Magazine also ranked Harrisburg as the number 2 best place to raise a family. It is also 7th best recession-proof city in America by The Daily Beast. Harrisburg is also among the top 10 cities for millennials to live by realtor.com.
There are also big brands with jobs here: Giant Food Stores, Capital Blue Cross, Gannett Fleming, Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, Rite Aid, Volvo Construction and Penn State Hershey Medical Center. The same life which in New York costs $100,000 can be had in Harrisburg for $55,000. This makes New York 88.5% more expensive as a place to live.
Harrisburg has a first class orchestra with a Tony-Award winning conductor. There is also Harrisburg’s Restaurant Row and the Susquehanna Art Museum and a youth ballet company.
