Just days before Thanksgiving, it had been a heartbreaking scene that animal advocates have tragically become too familiar; an owner sadly surrendered his dog to a shelter because the landlord had ordered the dog gone due to a breed restriction. And so it was to be, as a dejected and heartbroken bully breed dog named Rajah, had to bid his owner goodbye at the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter in Marrero, Louisiana.
Volunteers and staff recalled the day Rajah’s heart shattered into a million pieces as he watched his best friend leave. One could only imagine the tears of sorrow. Shelter manager, Brooke Bourgeois was there that day. On the organization’s Facebook page, she felt the emotional pain, “Rajah was neutered, chipped, and in flawless shape. He was an absolute nervous wreck the moment his owner left. It broke our hearts,” Brooke stated. This however, is a story with a happy ending; more of these stories would be so appreciated by all animal advocates; this one is too awesome not to share.
On Saturday morning, Brooke was at the shelter when to her surprise the day was to be perfect for Rajah. First thing in the morning, the dog’s owner walked into the shelter. He found a new place to live and came in to get his best friend. “The reunion, even after only 3 days apart, was like nothing I’ve experienced,” Brooke wrote on Facebook. And it was a joyous moment as dogs live to please and their loyalty is truly undeniable. “They deserve the same in return. And we are so grateful to witness this act of human loyalty. Happy human, happy dog. Driving off into the morning sunlight.” Please share this story; there are never enough happy endings.
