As Halle Berry’s divorce from French actor Olivier Martinez heats up, unnamed sources are blaming Olivier’s alleged feelings of inadequacy for the split. So-called insiders claim Olivier felt “emasculated” by Halle’s success, fame and wealth, leading to the constant fighting that preceded their divorce filing.
“Everything about her emasculated him: She was beautiful, iconic, employed and the breadwinner,” an unnamed source told People Oct. 30. “They were living off of her and that entitled him and it enraged him. There was a duality there.”
The “insider” also said Olivier hates living in Los Angeles, and would prefer to return to his native Paris, France. “[Martinez] is not happy in the U.S. and he’s not happy with the state of his career,” the source said. “He’s not happy she’s the breadwinner.”
The claims that Olivier felt emasculated by Halle would be more plausible had she become successful after they married. But Berry was already an established actress when the couple started dating in 2010.
Olivier was well aware Halle was successful because he signed a prenuptial agreement under which they both agreed to not seek spousal support if they divorced. They also agreed to keep their earnings separate during their marriage.
If Olivier had felt emasculated by Halle’s success, would he have signed the prenup and married her anyway?
When Halle and Olivier married in 2013, she wanted to move to Europe in what some say was a maneuver to prevent her ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, from seeing their daughter, Nahla. When Aubry sued for joint custody, the court blocked Berry from moving her daughter abroad, so Halle and Olivier were forced to live in L.A.
After seeing how vindictive Berry was toward the father of her daughter, Olivier has vowed not to wage an ugly custody battle over their son, sources told TMZ. Olivier does not plan to repeat the savage drama and hopes the court will award joint custody.
Martinez does not plan to move to Europe and start an international custody war over his son, which is what happened between Halle and Gabriel Aubry. Fans online are overwhelmingly siding with Olivier, noting that the “source” fawning over Halle is likely a PR person trying to minimize damage to her reputation.
“Halle has the PR regime pumping out the lies, huh?” wrote one commenter. Another added: “If she hadn’t been so nasty in all her previous divorces/breakups, people would be more sympathetic. As a mom myself, when she tried to move to Europe to keep her daughter’s father from seeing their child, she lost all my sympathy.”
Still another fan remarked:
Her publicist is gross. Halle should be ashamed of herself for ‘leaking’ stories like this, but she’s not, because she is full-on crazy.
Someday her son will have to read about how his mother sold his father out, and her daughter will have to read the filth she ‘leaked’ about her father as well. Then she will really be all alone, since her own children will probably want nothing to do with her.”
Halle and Olivier met in 2010 on the set of their flop “Dark Tide” and married in 2013, shortly after learning she was pregnant. Berry gave birth to their son, Maceo, in October 2013.
This is Halle’s third divorce. Berry was previously married to baseball star David Justice and singer Eric Benet. Both divorces were nasty and public, just like Halle’s breakup from ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.
