Preparing young boys and men for leadership in the African American community is a vital goal and ministry that will not only save lives but shape these lives for the betterment of humanity and each life that is contacted.
This is the goal and mission of Kappa Alpha Psi and its Guide Right program. Here in Houston, Texas this mission and ministry has been taken seriously as same as the case across the nation, where you see the Guide Right program implemented by various chapters of Kappa Alpha Psi, Alumni and undergraduate alike.
Training for leadership, making education, and achievement in every field of human endeavor they seek to embark on in life a success is what Kappa is about and through instrumental role models, educators, and cooperation from parents, Kappa Alpha Psi able to be that vessel and tool. These young men and boys are able to be mentally and structurally organized as individual leaders and scholars for our society.
Every year a mission trip that will become an annual one is its Southern College Tour, which the organization will take the Kappa League members on, with 2015 being the first year of the event.
Taking these young men on a routing trip to various colleges and universities in their region and possibly beyond, mostly predominately African American institutions will expose these young men and boys to the opportunities beyond the walls of the communities and lives they live.
Schools that were visited were Lamar University (Beaumont, TX), Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA), Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA), Xavier University of Louisiana (New Orleans, LA), Tulane University (New Orleans, LA), and the University of South Alabama (Mobile, AL). The Kappa League members also had an opportunity to fellowship with other Kappa League members from surrounding chapters and to attend the 12th Annual Battle of the Bay Step Show Competition and after party.
It is a strong initiative that these institutions, along with historically black colleges and universities continue to take on being the bedrock oasis of educating these black minds, creating future doctors, lawyers, educators, inventors, and entrepreneurs for the future.
With this ministry in mind, the seed for success has been laid and the choice to take up their individual crosses becoming the people they are destined to be is up to these young people.
What Kappa Alpha Psi has done is serve as that vessel and tool to make such realm possible.
An important aspect that was just recently added to the organization is the book club for the Kappa League members, where they are able to come together and share with one another the fundamental interest of reading, conversing, and challenging one another for each individual to become the best versions of themselves through the entity of comprehensive reading.
If you know any young boys or men that are interested in becoming a part of the organization please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
