There aren’t many pro wrestlers that have had the career Chavo Guerrero Jr. has.
Sure, he’s won a ton of titles and is a part of the legendary Guerrero family, but for close 20 years he’s managed to always be involved in something cool in the industry.
You might even say he’s like the Kevin Bacon of the sport. Case in point- how many people can say they’ve beaten CM Punk for the ECW title and beaten Jackie for the WWE Cruiserweight title? Not many. With several memorable, and not so memorable gimmicks over the years, he’s always found a way to stay relevant. Add reigns as the WCW Cruiserweight Champion, a reign as a TNA Tag Team Champion and his current stint in Lucha Underground and there’s a reason why he’s been around for so long.
With that kind of a career, you’d expect Guerrero to have plenty to say and while there are a plethora of wrestlers with podcasts, Guerrero’s is different. Discussing things from cars, to women, Guerrero’s show discusses life outside the ring as much as does inside.
“I didn’t want to do the same thing,” Guerrero said. “We came up with this talk show on the net that people can see. It’ll be available as a radio show too, but we wanted to have something that’s really different from every other wrestler’s show. There’s been a lot of trial and error so far, but we’re proud of what it’s turning into.”
While a few episodes have already been filmed, in the wake of Roddy Piper’s tragic death, Guerrero decided to release that episode first. A candid conversation between the veterans of the sport, Guerrero wanted to show his audience the Piper he knew. Drinking beers and having what Guerrero said was a man-to-man conversation, it’s a different type of Piper interview that he average wrestling fan may be used to.
Sick of listening to the same podcasts over and over, Guerrero said fans deserve something different.
“My show is fun,” said Guerrero. “We get laughs and entertain fans in a completely different way. In a guy way. Instead of talking to an MMA star like Rampage Jackson about his career, he’s been asked those questions a hundred times. That’s not me. We do it different. I want to ask him what it was like the first time he got his ass kicked or what car he lost his virginity in. That kind of stuff.”
