Visitors can experience an old-fashioned Christmas from America’s past when Greenfield Village at The Henry Ford Museum complex in Dearborn, Michigan offers their annual Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village celebration on December 4-6, 11-13, 17-23 and 26-28. It is approximately a 2.5 hour drive from Cleveland.
Taking place from 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m., visitors can stroll the lantern-lit streets of Greenfield Village at their leisure where they will be greeted by costumed presenters. Carolers will abound throughout the Village. Other activities at Holiday Nights include Model T rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, holiday cooking demonstrations, holiday vignettes, photo opportunities, skilled artisan demonstrations at various historic buildings in the Village and live musical and dramatic performances.
Guests will also be able to participate in ice skating (Skates are available for rental). Food stops (Try hot, roasted chestnuts!) will be available throughout the Village. The children will get the chance to visit Santa Claus and see his live reindeer through December 23. Each evening at Holiday Nights ends with a fireworks finale over the Village Green and a Christmas sing-along.
Admission to Holiday Nights is $24 for adults, $22 for seniors and $18 for youth (5-12). Children 4 and under are free. There are discounted rates for Henry Ford Museum members. There is a $6 parking fee per vehicle for non-members.
Visitors can also partake of special dining packages at the Eagle Tavern where they can enjoy a holiday feast at the Tavern ( a 1850’s stagecoach stop) in the Village. Decorated for the holiday season and with live music from the period, a feast will be served by costumed presenters. The menu includes homemade apple sauce, squash soup, pork & apple pie, roasted chicken with cherry sauce, roasted rib of beef with brown sauce, buttered carrots and brussels sprouts, herb-roasted red skin potatoes and carrot cake with a cream cheese glaze.
Cost of the Eagle Tavern feast is $79 for adults (13 and up) $71 for youth and $55 for children (2-4). There is a discount if you are a Henry Ford Museum member. The price includes dinner and admission to the Holiday Nights celebration in the Village. Reservations are required. There are two seatings available — at 5 p.m. and at 8 p.m. Call 313-982-6001 to make reservations.
Greenfield Village is also offering a Holiday Nights Supper with Santa on December 4-6, 11-13 and 17-23 at the Taste of History restaurant in the Village. A casual buffet-style holiday turkey dinner, the menu will include turkey (of course), mashed potatoes and gravy, glazed carrots, stuffing and mac ‘n cheese. For dessert there will be a Christmas sugar cookie. There will be a 1/2 portion of the adult meal for the children. Guests will also have the chance to make a keepsake decoration, hear a story and get a visit from Santa. Dinner will be served from 4:45 p.m, – 6:30 p.m. with the event lasting until 10 p.m. After dinner, guests will say farewell to Santa as he is whisked away in a special Model T and then they will join a caroling procession to the Village Pavilion to see a model train display. Cost is $51.50 for adults, $36.50 for youth and $15 for children. The cost includes dinner and admission to Holiday Nights. There is a discount for members.
A Special Note: This Holiday Nights event involves a large portion of outdoor activities and the celebration takes place in all kinds of weather. Make sure you bring appropriate clothing and weather gear that cover a wide range of weather conditions.
