“They” say never go shopping for food when you’re hungry . . . and they’re right. If you’re at work or traveling or haven’t grocery shopped, improbable snacks start calling your name. Think of old, stale, nasty chips in vending machines that mice have discovered. Or things that are 99% salt and food coloring. Not what you want to be putting in your body! But for many of us, “health” bars don’t cut it. Many of those are loaded with sugar, too. Now there’s Graze (snack subscription boxes) to the rescue! I was happy to be hosted to experience it.
Subscription boxes come right to your door and they say that the monthly packs should fit in your mailbox, so you don’t have to stand around like a dope, waiting for the mail carrier.
Here’s some info on the monthly boxes:
We know the secret to great tasting food is creativity so our specialized Taste Team, led by Eleanor (we call her “the Taste”), are always in the kitchen. Their sole mission is to discover exciting flavors and create delicious new combinations that will delight your taste buds.
It’s not just the unique combinations and flavors that make our snacks great, it’s our dedication to find the highest quality ingredients. Some people think that an almond is just an almond, but once you’ve tried our Californian almonds with our sweet yet spicy salsa mesquite seasoning, you’ll never look at an almond in the same way again.
We pride ourselves on working with small suppliers who we feel give us unrivaled ingredients and products.
Our in-house nutritionist, Jess, works with the Taste Team to make sure that every single recipe has a benefit for you – whether it be essential vitamins and minerals or a source of protein, you can always rely on our Jess.
Some packages are portion controlled, but some aren’t. Those might be good in a party situation, but I find the larger packs too tempting to empty out.
Kettle Corn Kern Pops are seasoned popcorn: sweet and salty, but not too sweet. I was glad to see they have nutritional values on the packages and that this snack has a good amount of fiber.
The Anytime Energizer has dried pear, cherry and walnuts. They’re one of the snacks in a bigger bag, so it’s hard to watch your portions. It’s very satisfying, though.
The Cheese Board is a snack of cheese flavored cashews and croutons. I like savory snacks the most and I love cheese, but I found this snack to be too much like boxed salad croutons. Again, this was in a big bag that you have to do your own portion controlling.
Chili Lime Cashews are portion controlled with a sophisticated level of seasoning. It’s not overly salty and it’s satisfying.
Stars and Stripes are mini black currant stars, raspberry strings and blueberry flavored cranberries. They’re like licorices of different flavors: fun.
Peach Cobbler is awesome! It’s Amaretti drops, dried peaches, almonds yogurt seeds.
Poppy Seed Pretzels with Chocolate Hazelnut Dip: Not too salty. I’ll give points for trying poppy seeds with chocolate, but they don’t really work together.
Lemon Drizzle Flapjack is rustic rolled oat flapjack with lemon and yogurt drizzle. It’s sweet and dessert-like, but with healthy ingredients.
Punchy Protein Nuts: Chili lime cashews, pistachios and almonds. Not too spicy or salty with nice flavor, savory.
Triple Berry Smoothies: Mini strawberries, blueberries, cranberries and chewy banana slices. The chewy bananas add richness, so it seems quite indulgent.
Blondie and brownie cookies are crispy and flavorful.
Some snacks have more carbs and less fiber than I would like to see. It will be interesting to see if in the future, people can pick things out not just by flavor/ingredient, but by nutritional values.
