A dog, who was stranded in dangerous floodwaters with his owner, was rescued early Friday morning by firefighters with the McKinney, Texas, fire department, reported the McKinney Courier Gazette. The dog, a shepherd, was with his owner beneath a bridge on El Dorado Parkway, in swift-moving water.
According to the Daily Mail, the dog’s owner was able to call 9-1-1 with a request for help, and as he waited for the rescuers to arrive, he kept his dog safe from the swift-moving water by hoisting him onto his shoulders. Responding firefighters utilized a fire engine ladder to reach the pair and then carefully lifted them both to safety.
After being gently deposited on dry ground, the grateful pooch ran to the firefighter who had saved him – jumping up and delivering a kiss of gratitude . Professional photographer, Michael O’Keefe, captured the amazing rescue, as well the touching show of gratitude from the rescued dog. O’Keefe told NBC DFW News, “His feet hit the ground and he almost instantly went towards the firefighter that had saved him, jumped all over him, licked all over him. It was real touching to watch.”
