The hit TV show “19 Kids and Counting” on TLC has been pulled. After the news broke that Josh Duggar had been accused and latter admitted to molesting multiple underage girls, the show was taken off the air by TLC.
Josh Duggar had been a star on the TLC TV show, but the 27-year-old’s life has quickly been turned upside down over the last 24 hours. The oldest son of the Duggar family has admitted to molesting young girls back in 2002 an 2003, after his father caught him in one of the female’s bedrooms. The Duggar’s have made headlines over the years for being strict conservative Christians, who refuse to use of birth control and have openly spoken out against homosexuality. On May 21, the accused Duggar issued an apology, stating, “I acted inexcusably.” Duggar would go on to say that he “would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions,” but that he was “very thankful for God’s grace, mercy and redemption.” While the show has been suspended and the family in negative standing with the American people, one prominent Republican is taking their side.
After publicly endorsing former Arkansas governor and current presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, earlier this month, the Duggar family was able to keep his support. In a lengthy message on his official Facebook page on May 22, Huckabee spoke about the Duggar’s and made it clear that he was standing by them, “(We) want to affirm our support for the Duggar family.”
“Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable,’…He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities.”
police reports show that Josh’s father, Jim Bob Duggar, didn’t report the incident for close to a year later. Instead of distancing himself from the controversial family with a child molesting son, Huckabee has deflected the blame on to the media. Referring to the media as “blood thirsty,” Huckabee is accusing those who have reported on the facts of the story of “sensationalizing” a tragic event.
InTouch Magazine broke the story Thursday about recently released police reports which reveal that Josh’s father, Jim Bob Duggar, didn’t report the incident to police for close to a year later. Instead of distancing himself from the controversial family with a child molesting son, Huckabee has deflected the blame on to the media. Referring to the media as “blood thirsty,” Huckabee is accusing those who have reported on the facts of the story of “sensationalizing” a tragic event.
As of press time, Josh Duggar has resigned his position with the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian organization, where he took a strong positioning proving anti-gay rhetoric. It is unknown if TLC will officially cancel “19 Kids and Counting,” or how long the show will remain off the air.
