“God’s Not Dead 2” is a movie revolving around a Christian history teacher fighting to keep her job, according to a recent article in the Blaze. The film, which features a cast of well-known stars, concentrates on the situation of public school teacher Grace Wesley who finds her career threatened when she brings up the subject of Jesus in the classroom. The cast includes Melissa Joan Hart, the late Fred Thompson of “Law and Order” fame and even presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
The plot is initiated by a student grieving the loss of her brother who reaches out to her teacher in a coffee shop. Grace interjects Christ into the conversation saying she hopes the student finds Jesus. Grace then finds herself in hot water when the student asks her a question about Jesus inside the classroom. Grace’s honest answer is the basis of an attack against her which leads to the courtroom.
According to Charisma News, the movie’s central question is, “Would you be willing to put God above the law and risk losing everything for His sake?” It’s impossible to say how most people would answer that question in today’s culture which worships cell phones and video games. Although, there have been many examples in American schools in which students were shot to death for refusing to deny Christ. And in the Middle East thousands of Christians have been murdered by ISIS for refusing to convert to Islam.
Jesus of course set the example by facing execution on the cross for his words and actions in the first century. This movie could be a motivating force in inspiring believers to follow the Great Commission around today’s increasingly dangerous world. God’s Not Dead 2 opens at theaters everywhere on April 1, 2016.
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee recently told the Christian Post he has a cameo appearance in the movie, saying, “It was a real honor and thrill to film a scene for the movie. A few years ago, such a plot would seem like fiction, but in light of how Christianity is being criminalized in American, this film depicts life in America for those of faith.”
Pure Flix Entertainment announced this week Huckabee would be appearing in its movie. Huckabee will portray himself in the film which he describes as a “wake up call for America.” This movie is a sequel to the original movie which grossed $60 million in 2014. There will also be an appearance by “Duck Dynasty” star Sadie Robertson.
Also appearing in the movie will be actor Jesse Metcalf who made his name on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” and Ernie Hudson from “Ghostbusters”. Hart previously was in the TV series “Clarissa Explains It All” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”. Singer Pat Boone also appears in the much-anticipated film.
Stars from the original “God’s Not Dead” film Trisha LaFache, Benjamin Onyango, Paul Kwo and David A.R. White also appear in the sequel. The Newsboys will also have a cameo appearance.
Pure Flix producer Michael Scott was surprised by the success of his original “God’s Not Dead.” He discussed it in a press release a year ago, saying, “We are humbled and grateful for the support of audiences, pastors, church leaders and those that saw the greater message of ‘God’s Not Dead.’ The making of this film has been an incredible and poignant journey, and the success has been an even greater surprise.”
