As students head back to school, the Rapides Parish Library is here to help them stay on target and succeed in their educational endeavors. There are hundreds of free applications available online at rpl.org! Highlighted below are just a few of the applications available — all you need is a FREE library card!
1) HomeworkLouisiana – an online tool that connects Louisiana K-12 students, adults preparing for the GED and college students to a live tutor online for one-on-one help with homework. HomeworkLA.org also offers studying and test preparation in all core academic subjects including math, science, social studies and English. Parents and students can access this helpful application by going to: www.rpl.org. Scroll down and locate the HomeworkLA icon and click the button. Tutors are available Sunday through Thursday 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. The network is comprised of more than 1,800 tutors who are certified teachers, professors, graduate school students, university students and professionals who are experts in their field. Each tutor passes a third party security background check. The Skills Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Online Classroom has been optimized to enhance a one-on-one learning session. It includes real-time chat, an interactive whiteboard, math tools that include drag and drop shapes and commonly used equations, graphing paper and much more. A student and tutor can also share files or browse educational resources on the Web. ProofPoint™ Real-Time Writing Center enables students to upload documents to receive a live review, edits and writing strategy assistance. SkillsCenter™ Resource Library includes thousands of vetted resources for independent study such as tutorials, videos and study guides that map to the subjects. HomeworkLouisiana can be accessed from a Louisiana public library or from a home computer by going to www.homeworkla.org. The free Tutor.com app is available in iPhone™ and Android™ formats for your tablet or smartphone.
2) Learning Library Express 3.0 – The Learning Express Library is available through www.rpl.org by simply scrolling down and locating the blue fleur-de-lis icon. On the right column, scroll down and click on the “Learning Library Express”. Access over 800 online practice tests and interactive skill-building tutorials to help launch or advance their careers. Practice for professional certification, licensing, and aptitude tests in civil service, law enforcement, firefighting, EMS, military, real estate, and healthcare, among others. Prepare for college and graduate school admissions tests including the SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT. Successfully prepare for the GED, or HiSet™ exams when working toward a high school diploma. The Learning Library Express can also help adult students improve or refresh basic skills in reading, writing, and math.
3) Literati by CREDO™– Literati is a tool that helps make your research faster and more efficient. This applications offers unlimited access to hundreds of full text reference books on every subject for every type of library user. Build a study guide, save favorite books for your classes and utilize a full set of research tools all in one place! Tons of images, audio files, videos and full text articles on any topic you can think of, all with full citations to sharpen and promote research skills.
The Rapides Parish Library is a vital access point to information. Without full access to the tremendous amount of information available through the Internet, a person cannot be a full participant in today’s world. This is particularly important for students, whatever their age.
It is critical that students receive the very best learning opportunities available, and the Rapides Parish Library is a valuable tool that parents, students, and adult students have to help them excel in school or in the workforce.
