getTV has announced that they are bringing back some variety and talk programming from TV’s Golden Age. This is big news for both the classic TV and film fan. The Sony Pictures Television Network will air these programs weekly on Mondays starting on October 12. The shows that will be gracing the slate are “The Judy Garland Show” and “The Merv Griffin Show.” Between these two shows will be a rotating slate of musical variety specials and series episodes.
“The Judy Garland Show” will be airing at 8 p.m. ET. getTV will present all 26 episodes of the series. They will be showing episodes of the show for the first time since it’s original broadcast. The first episode airing on October 12 will have featured guest Mickey Rooney. Other notables that viewers will get a chance to see are Count Basie, Lena Horne, and Tony Bennett. It was in 1963 when the show aired. It lasted for one season.
“The Merv Griffin Show” will be airing at 10 p.m. ET. getTV will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary with a selection of 50 hand-picked episodes. None of the episodes that will be airing on getTV have been seen since their original broadcast. The first episode on October 12 will feature Carl Reiner and Robert F. Kennedy. Other notable guests are Jayne Mansfield (with her two-year-old daughter Mariska Hargitay), Totie Fields, and Sammy Davis Jr. The original show was 90 minutes long, getTV will be trimming it to an hour show.
The shows that will be airing during the 9 p.m. time slot are a variety of classic specials. Some of those specials will feature Andy Williams, Jim Nabors, Carol Channing, and Pearl Bailey. getTV got the specials from Paul Brownstein Productions and Legacy Entertainment. They acquired “The Judy Garland” show from World Nation Live Entertainment and “The Merv Griffin Show” from Reelin’ In The Years Productions.
