Two of the most beautiful ethnically diverse hit the red carpet for the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards which were held this past weekend in Los Angeles at the Nokia theater. Taraji P. Henson, star of Fox’s Empire and Gina Rodriquez’ star of CW’s Jane the Virgin were as opposite as night and day in their red carpet looks. While Gina looked sweet and delicate in a floral detailed blush gown by Lorena Sabru, Taraji was channeling her inner ‘Cookie’ in a black cutout and chains Alexander Wang gown. Both gorgeous ladies can attribute their makeup to the celebrity artists of L’Oreal Paris who were on hand to create their red carpet ready looks. Here’s how Ashunta Shariff manicurist for L’Oreal Paris created Taraji’s look followed by makeup artist for L’Oreal Paris, Carissa Ferreri created Gina’s look.
Using the Alexander Wang dress as inspiration, Ashunta, felt that Taraji’s look need to be bold as well which included smoky eyes, lots of eyeliner and of course sexy eyelashes.
STEP 1: Ashunta started on Taraji by first applying L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Eye Renewal Eye Cream ($24.99) to ensure her makeup didn’t cake around her eyes. She then prepped Taraji’s face with L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer ($24.99), a rich emollient moisturizer to help combat against dry skin.
STEP 2: To prime her skin, Ashunta applied L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift Miracle Blur Oil-Free ($24.99) to Taraji’s face. By doing this it allowed her complexion to appeared smoother and virtually flawless.
STEP 4: Next, Ashunta used L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in C7 ($10.95), since it blended seamlessly to match Taraji’s tone, which in turn provided a flawless canvas. She then corrected any minor imperfections with L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Concealer ($8.99).
STEP 5: To create a perfect, illuminated glow, Ashunta applied L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator ($12.99) on Taraji with a makeup sponge patting it into the high points of her face like the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, her brow bones and the bow of her lips.
STEP 6: Ashunta proceeded to create a smoldering eye look by using L’Oréal Paris Silkissime Eyeliner by Infallible in Black ($8.99) on the eyelids and the lashlines. She then blended out the pencil onto the lid, which acted as a base and locked in any following eyeshadow application.
STEP 7: Using her finger tips, Ashunta blended L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Smoldering Plum ($8.95) liberally all over Taraji’s eyelids, and then layered in the darker mahogany and cocoa colors from the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude ($19.99) all the way up to the crease and then accentuating along the lower lashline.
STEP 8: Ashunta primed and coated next Taraji’s upper and lower lashes with NEW L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara ($10.99). To finish off her eyes, Ashunta traced them with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Liner ($9.99) into a thin, yet bold, cat-wing that gave her eyes a slightly mod feel.
STEP 10: For Taraji’s cheeks, Ashunta used L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Colour Lift Blush in Pink Lift ($12.95). For her lips Ashunta used L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Brazil Nut and Golden Splendor ($8.95) to create the perfect nude lip for Taraji’s darker skin tone.
STEP 12: Lastly to finish off the look and set it for the long, hot evening, Ashunta spritzed L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray ($16.99) all over Taraji’s face.
For Gina’s Emmy look for the night, Carissa Ferreri, decided to use as inspiration the Lorena Sarbu blush dress that Gina wore. Here’s how Carissa created her look.
STEP 1: First thing Carissa did was to prep Gina’s face and impart a glowing base to the face by using L’Oréal Paris Youth Code All-In-One Skin Illuminator ($17.99). To brighten Gina’s eyes and diminish any dark circles, Carissa applied L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Eye Renewal Eye Cream ($24.99).
STEP 2: To achieve Gina’s smoky eye, Carissa stuck to a mainly grey and charcoal matte tones from the L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude in 01 ($19.99). She then accentuated the outer corner of Gina’s eyes with the charcoal shimmer shadow.
STEP 3: To create a natural-looking brow for Gina, Carissa penciled in light strokes of L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Designer ($7.99). Next she wanted to create full, dramatic lashes, so Carissa turned to NEW L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara ($9.99) for the eyelashes, and then lined the inner corner of the eyelids with NEW L’Oréal Paris Superstar Liner ($9.99).
STEP 5: To create a beautiful glow that embraced and enhanced Gina’s skin tone, Carissa mixed L’Oréal Paris True Match Super Blendable Makeup ($10.95) in shades 106 and 107 with a touch of L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in N201 Rose ($12.99). Using a mini sponge applicator she then blended in L’Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator in C302 Ice ($12.99) on top of Gina’s cheek bones for added luminosity.
STEP 6: To complete the look, Carissa applied L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Matte Lip Pen in 102 – She’s So Matte ($9.99) to Gina’s lips. For a long lasting lip Carissa then applied a touch of L’Oréal Paris Pro Last Lipcolor.
An extra tip from Carissa on polishing Gina’s smile: ‘I absolutely love Gina’s smile! When it comes to the red carpet, we have fun playing around with lipstick shades. No matter what shade we settle on, the color always looks better when paired with pearly whites. Gina recently started using the Crest 3D White Brilliance System ($14.99) and I love how it has really enhanced her natural smile. It’s a 2-step daily toothpaste that deep cleans and whitens and gets her smile red carpet ready!’
