With another awards show down, it’s time to check out the how tos on some of the hottest looks on the red carpet. This time we’re talking about the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards which were held in downtown Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater this past Sunday, September 20. Although the day was a scorcher for Los Angeles with temperature hitting 100 some of the stars still managed to look amazing on the red carpet like Taraji P. Henson (Fox’s Empire), Sofia Vergara and Sarah Hyland (both of ABC’s Modern Family) while others were disappointing in their styling choices like those made by Julianne Hough (ABC’s Dancing with the Stars) and Tracee Ellis Ross (ABC’s Blackish). Luckily though, the best makeup on the red carpet was the one done by L’Oreal Paris celebrity stylists. Whether it was just Sarah Hyland’s hair, Taraji P Henson’s makeup or a head to nail look for Naomi Watts, the celebrity stylists for L’Oreal Paris definitely made their mark on the celebrities on such a sweltering day. Ready to get the looks starting with the how to for Sarah Hyland’s followed by and Rebecca Rittenhouse’s hair. Sarah’s hair was courtesy of L’Oreal Paris celebrity hairstylist Ryan Richman and Rebecca’s hair was courtesy of L’Oreal Paris celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak. First up, the how to on Sarah Hyland’s hair.
For Sarah Hyland’s hair, Ryan decided to go the opposite of her gown. For the Emmys, Sarah wore a Zac Posen gown that was both sleek and elegant so Ryan chose to go with a tousled messy wave. According to Ryan; ‘I’ve been doing Sarah’s hair for about two years so often times the challenge is to do something I’ve never done before. I have done her hair wavy countless times but never quite like this. This texture shows off her amazing cut and color and accommodated the look well.’
Step 1: The first thing Ryan did to prep Sarah’s hair was to make sure it was damp and then he sprayed a generous amount of L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT Blow Out HeatSpray ($4.99), focusing mainly at the root. He used a wide-toothed comb to distribute the product throughout the hair and then he created a deep side part.
Step 2: Next using a blow dryer and his fingers, Ryan rough dried the roots of her hair until they were halfway dry. To finish drying her hair he used a medium boar bristle round brush to finish drying in in sections and being careful not to over-smooth her the hair, This was done to add volume and a little natural texture.
Step 3: Ryan used a 1″ flat iron on medium heat to create the tousled wave, spraying L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold ($14.99) on each section before curling. He held the flat iron vertically facing down and clamped a 1″ section of hair at the base of the head. Then in one fluid motion, he twisted the iron and pushed downward to create a loose beachy wave. Ryan alternated directions of the wave as he moved throughout the hair for a beautiful and natural tousled-texture result.
Step 4: Next Ryan rubbed a small amount of L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Hyper-Fix Putty ($4.99) into the palms of his hands. He focused his attention at the root, where he worked the product through the hair roughly with his hands.
Step 5: To finish the look, Ryan used a bobby pin to secure the small side of the part behind Sarah’s ear and misted L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold ($14.99) all over the hair to lock her hairstyle in place all night.
Now it’s time to get the how to on Rebecca Rittenhouse’s hair. For inspiration, L’Oreal Paris celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak was inspired by the gorgeous Georges Chakra dress she was wearing. According to Mara; ‘Rebecca had an idea of what look she wanted and we both agreed that hair down was definitely the way to go, but we wanted to keep the hair off of her face. We went with a very clean and classic style with a modern center part.”
STEP 1: First thing Mara did was to wash Rebecca’s hair with Advanced Haircare Nutri-Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner ($4.99 each). Mara then applied Advanced Hairstyle Blow Dry It Thermal Smoother Cream ($4.99), all over and then parted Rebecca’s hair down the center.
STEP 2: Next, she blow dried the hair with a round brush to create a very smooth look. Once her hair was dry, Mara used a 1 ¼ flat iron, with which she waved Rebecca’s hair from ear height down. She then sprayed L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold ($14.99) all over.
STEP 4: With a soft brush, Mara very gently brushed through the waves. Once she was done she sprayed it again with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold ($14.99) to hold the look in place.
STEP 5: Next, Mara modernized the look by tucking Rebecca’s hair behind her ears and spraying it wuth Advanced Haircare Nutri-Gloss High Shine Glossing Mist ($6.99) all over Rebecca’s hair for added shine. Lastly, Mara finished off the look by running the end of a comb dipped in Advanced Hairstyle Lock It Extreme Style Gel over untamed strands to control any flyaways.
