Get the look: Naomi Watts’ head to nails look at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards

by atom bash

Once again all the mega stars were out in their magnificent glory for the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards which were held in downtown Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater this past Sunday, September 20. Some of the stars looked as amazing as always like Taraji P. Henson (Fox’s Empire), Sofia Vergara and Sarah Hyland (both of ABC’s Modern Family) while others were disappointing in their styling choices like those made by Joanna Newsom (Inherent Vice) and Claire Danes (Showtime’s Homeland). Luckily though, the best makeup on the red carpet was the one done by L’Oreal Paris celebrity stylists. Whether it was just Rebecca Rittenhouse’s hair, Gina Rodriquez’ makeup or a head to nail look for Naomi Watts, the celebrity stylists for L’Oreal Paris definitely made their mark on the celebrities on what would otherwise be a less pompous affair when compared to other award shows. Regardless of the even, it’s time to get the look starting with the how to for Naomi Watts’ hair, makeup and nails courtesy of Tracey Sutter of Cloutier Remix for L’Oréal Paris, Monika Blunder for L’Oreal Paris and Cervando Maldonado of The Wall Group for L’Oréal Paris. First up, Naomi Watts’ hair.

For Naomi’s hair, hairstylist Cervando Maldonado used the 60’s era as inspiration. Her chose to create a tousled, modernly chic updo with a 60’s twist. To achieve the look here’s what he did:

Step 1: Firs thing Cervando did was wash Naomi’s hair with Advanced Haircare Nutri-Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner ($4.99 each). By doing this he ensured that Naomi’s hair was full of high shine.

Step 2: Next, Cervando applied Advanced Hairstyle Curve It Elastic Curl Mousse ($4.99) onto Naomi’s damp hair to help create texture. He also applied Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Blow Out Heat Spray ($4.99) starting at the roots and then he combed it through the rest of her hair.

Step 3: Afterwards, he rough dried her hair and put in Velcro rollers in to add volume. Once the rollers were set, he blew out Naomi’s hair straight and smooth.

Step 4: Once her hair was dry, Cervando sprayed Advanced Hairstyle Txt It Tousle Waves Spray ($4.99) on her hair. This was to give Naomi’s hair an all over polished look as well as providing texture and movement. Cervando then dried the rest of her hair with a diffuser and created small waves with a flat iron.

Step 5: Once he was done doing that, Cervando pulled Naomi’s hair back into a loose updo and twisted her hair, all the while pinning as he twisted. He chose to leave Naomi’s bangs and a couple of face framing wisps out to accentuate her tousled look.

Step 6: To finish off the look and secure it in place, Cervando lightly misted Advanced Haircare Nutri-Gloss High Shine Glossing Mist ($6.99) to lock in shine, followed by L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold ($14.99) to hold the look in place.

For Naomi’s makeup, she turned to Monika Blunder celebrity makeup artitst for L’Oreal Paris. For inspiration, Monika went with a complementary look that matched her Dior dress that was soft in nature with a floral touch and silver beading. Here’s how Monika created her 60’s inspired look.

STEP 1: First thing Monika did was to moisturize Naomi’s skin with L’Oreal Paris Youth Code Skin Illuminator ($17.99). She then started off by applying L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup W-3 ($10.99) all over the face with a damp sponge and used a concealer to spot conceal the areas that needed more coverage.

STEP 2: Next, Monika worked on Naomi’s brows. She wanted to create strong brow since the rest of the makeup was going to be very soft and fresh. She used L’Oreal Paris Brow Stylist Sculptor in Brunette ($8.99) to create a fuller brow by filling in any gaps and giving Naomi’s brows added definition.

STEP 3: For Naomi’s eyes, she used L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude 2 ($19.99). She used shade #3 in the crease area and then she used shade #1 in the inner corners to highlight and open up her eyes.

STEP 4: For the rest of Naomi’s eyes, Monika used L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Eyeliner in Black Brown ($8.99) and applied it very close to the upper lash line to create more depth and to make the lash line appear fuller. Then she used shade #6 from the eye palette to soften up the line. To finish off the eyes, Monika curled the lashes and applied three coats of L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara ($10.99).

STEP 5: For Naomi’s cheeks, Monika wanted to create something that was healthy and dewy-looking. She decided to use L’Oreal Paris Visible Lift Blush in Soft Peach ($12.99) to create a soft flush on the apples of the cheeks. Then she highlighted the tops of her cheekbones and brow bones using L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in Ice (12.99).

STEP 6: Lastly on the lips, Monika created a soft, peachy pink color by first applying L’Oreal Paris Le Matte Lip Colour in Game, Set, Matte ($9.99) and then layered L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Fairest Nude ($8.99) over it to soften the color. To ensure the makeup lasted all day on what turned out to be one of the hottest days in Los Angeles this year, she finished the look with L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Set & Spray Makeup Extender Setting Spray ($16.99).

For Naomi’s final look of the night she turned to makeup artist, Tracey Sutter/Cloutier Remix for L’Oréal Paris for her nails. The overall inspiration for Naomi’s nails wast to choose shades that stayed true to Naomi’s classic red carpet style and subtly complemented her natural beauty. The end result was a timeless almost barley-there manicured nails. This is how Tracey created the look.

STEP 1: Tracey first started with a dry manicure to ensure Naomi’s nail beds did not have too much moisture, which helps the nail polish dry quicker. Tracey then shaped Naomi’s nails into a natural round shape and tended to cuticles, which she followed up with a long soothing massage on both her hands and feet.

STEP 2: Next, Tracey and Naomi both decided on using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Nailcolor in Passionate Petal ($9.99) as the perfect color since Naomi prefers a classy, sophisticated and very clean finish. Tracey just applied one coat of color to her nails and then and topped it off with the hue’s corresponding topcoat for extra high-shine and protection against chips.
