The heat wave has broken on the shores of gritty Manhattan isle, but on its last night on Tuesday, the temperature got turned up a notch when G-SHOCK, Casio’s line of high resistance sports watches, teamed up with model friendly magazine Galore to throw a Summer Bombshell party at the Beach, the Dream Downtown’s sleek glass bottomed pool that sits like a South Beach oasis on West 16th Street. Models in minimal bathing suits sported the sporty timepieces from G-Shock’s S Series, the brand’s first line of watches designed exclusively for women, and guests scored a few of their own in gift bags from the VIP lounge.
NYC based director, designer, creative consultant and DJ, Vashtie Kola, kept the tunes blasting poolside, with a little help later in the evening from Playboy’s March 2015 cover model, Gia Genevieve. Cocktails were gratis from Bud Light’s Lime-A-Rita, and those drinks were kept cool and afloat in mini inflatable pink flamingo coolers that bobbed in the pool alongside a huge G-SHOCK flamingo float mascot. Partiers managed to avoid falling into the pool, despite many who tottered in heels through the tight crowd along the pool’s edge. Many guests arrived ready to get wet, already wearing bathing suits and gratefully jumping into the refreshing waters and hanging out with a flamingo cooled beer can.
Galore cover model, actress and Miss Universe 2012, Olivia Culpo, who is reputedly the source of former boyfriend Nick Jonas’ song “Jealous”, hung out in the VIP area and so did Sports Illustrated model Hannah Ferguson. Scott Lipps, Founder and CEO of NYC based model agency One Management, attended, as did models Shanina Shaik, Juliana Herz, designer Zana Bayne, model Travis Smith and writer, socialite and tv personality Paul Johnson Calderone. Galore’s Creative Directors and Editors in Chief, Jakob Dekat and Prince Chenoa hosted the hot night summer pool party along with G-SHOCK.
The S Series line uplifts the G-SHOCK brand into the contemporary fashion space for the female consumer who loves G-SHOCK watches, but feels they may be too large for her wrist. G-SHOCK continues to offer brilliant technical innovations through S-Series but now extends itself into presenting their watches as a sporty fashion accessory.
The Tribal Rose, Glamorous Gold and Botanical Rose collections made their debut at Fashion Week FW15 via integrations with womenswear designers Timo Weiland, Nicholas K and up and coming designer Charles Harbison. Casio released three S-Series watches globally to retail this past April and May. The new collection embraces all the features usually associated with G-SHOCK. They are all equipped with an auto LED light with afterglow, 5 daily alarms, an hourly time signal, 1/1000 second stopwatch, countdown timer, world time with 29 time zones and are shock resistant and water resistant to 200M.
G-SHOCK watches are available in Manhattan at the G-SHOCK Soho store located at 454 West Broadway, and at Nordstrom’s, Macy’s and at select department stores.
