Feeling like you’re in a beauty rut? No time to get to the salon, but feel like you need a little kick in the beauty butt?
Don’t worry! Spicing up your look doesn’t need to be time or money consuming. There’s always something you can do to freshen up, using products you already have, or ones you can easily pick up at the drug store.
We all have different faces, with different highlights and quirks. It can be hard to know how to change your look, but luckily there are a few universal tricks that’ll make every face a little brighter.
So whether you think you’re too busy to put effort into your appearance, or you just don’t know what direction to go with your look, here are three simple tricks to take you from blah to bombshell.
Make your eyes sparkle
The eyes are the window to the soul — but sometimes people need a little flash to catch their attention and make them look!
One way to do this is to highlight the inner corners of your eyes by applying a light, shimmery eyeshadow. Using a small makeup brush or q-tip, apply the shadow dry for subtle shimmer, or wet for a more dramatic look — just dip or spritz your brush with water before wiping on the shadow.
Give NYX’s Glam Shadow in Wedding Cake or Covergirl’s Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Blazing White a try.
Dramatically part your hair
Want to change up your look without much effort? Try giving yourself a side part — a deep, deep side part.
Many women stick to their safe, just-off-center part because it’s what they’re used to. But by moving that part over just an inch or two, you can va-va-voom up and look more confident.
A deep side part will help hide your face’s imperfections — it helps round cheeks look slimmer, and makes uneven eyes less noticeable. Plus, height and volume that the deep side part creates will give you a more feminine look.
To achieve the best deep side part, first apply a volumizing mousse like this one from TRESemme. Then flip your head to one side and blow dry down the strands of hair. Flip your head again and switch sides. Do this until hair is dry, making sure you end with your hair parted on the opposite side of how you’ll wear it. Let your hair cool for a few seconds, then flip it over and part it on the side you want.
Tip: Start the part at the outer point of your eyebrow, then angle it in towards the center crown of your head. This way, the volume at the crown will be evenly distributed on both sides.
Whiten your teeth instantly
Everyone knows a bright, white smile makes you look younger and more attractive. But teeth whitening can be expensive, and even painful for those with sensitive teeth.
One solution? Use lip products with blue in them. It might sound crazy, but lipsticks or glosses with blue undertones will instantly make your teeth appear whiter.
If you’re into red lips but have less-than-perfectly white teeth, steer clear of warm reds (avoid products with words like “orange,” “fire,” or “coral” in their names). Instead, choose cool reds — cool refers to their blue undertones. Try a classic like M.A.C.’s MAC Red.
If you want want a more natural looking product, Go Smile’s Lip Treatment might be for you. Apply the blue lip balm before your favorite lipstick, or wear it alone. And don’t worry, the tint is light — you won’t look like you kissed a smurf!
