On Friday, syndicated columnist Phil Kerpen said in a tweet that Laurie Rubiner, a former Clinton staffer and current vice president of public policy and advocacy for Planned Parenthood, had one of the secret email addresses used by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Moreover, Life News said, Rubiner worked with Clinton to push abortion in Africa.
“Planned Parenthood VP and former Hillary Senate staffer Laurie Rubiner had the secret email address,” Kerpen said on Twitter. The message was just one of the more than 1,300 emails released Friday.
“I understand you are going to Kenya next week and while I know the trip is primarily focused on trade issues, I wanted to flag an issue for you because I know it is near and dear to your heart,” Rubiner said in the email. “Kenya has one of the strictest anti-abortion laws in Africa — it is illegal unless a woman’s life is at risk and criminalizes both the woman and the provider,” she added, before lobbying Clinton to push the African nation on abortion, in an apparent violation of federal law. She also indicated her level of support for Clinton, calling her a “hero.”
“I know it is asking a lot, but if there is any way that you could draw attention to this issue when you are in Kenya, you would be even more of my personal hero than you already are,” she wrote. “It is our hope that if Kenya knows the world is watching they may be more careful in how they proceed. Of course we would be happy to help you in any way if you decide you want to do something on this while you are there,” she added.
Huma Abedin, a close aide to Clinton, responded to Rubiner’s request. “Laurie — She isn’t doing any specific health or womens events in Kenya but I’ve also shared your email with policy team at state and embassy staff in Nairobi helping to plan the trip to see if there is any way to address this,” she wrote.
Life News noted that the Obama administration used $18 million in taxpayer funds to advocate for less restrictive abortion laws in Kenya. According to the GAO, at least one Obama grantee openly violated the Siljander Amendment, an annually renewed law that prohibits tax dollars from being used to lobby for or against abortion in other countries, Life News added.
A key Obama official stonewalled investigators and refused to cooperate in the investigation. Rep. Chris Smith, a New Jersey Republican who opposes abortion, accused the administration of using surrogates to promote abortion in Africa, despite the law.
“The Obama Administration basically hired surrogates to do its dirty work of abortion promotion in Kenya,” he said. “U.S. policy on international constitutional reform is, by law, supposed to be abortion-neutral,” he added. “This new report shows that at a minimum the Obama Administration ignored the prohibition with the end result being a new Kenyan constitution that vastly expands access to abortion in Kenya, courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.”
Planned Parenthood is currently under fire for a series of videos in which executives are seen and heard openly discussing the sale of fetal body parts obtained through late term abortions. The most recent video suggests that Planned Parenthood may have sold what Life News called “the ‘fully intact’ bodies of unborn babies purposefully born alive and left to die.” According to reports, eight to 10 more videos are set to be released.
