Election Day has come and gone. Now we must come together as a community. The sides are no longer Democrat and Republican they are what we all are, residents of Upper Darby. We all have work to do, whether it is our Mayor Tom Micozzie, State Representative James Santora or State Representative Margo Davidson. There can no longer be a divide over political parties, over us vs. them or new residents’ vs old residents. We are what makes Upper Darby great. We are the community. We are the residents who have chosen to live here, who are or did raise our families here. As a community, we must do what is right. We must speak up for those without, we must speak out when we see those struggling, and we must speak out when we witness illegal activity.
For our elected officials, you need to keep your word. For our elected officials you must not cheat, you must not put yourself first, you must be someone we can look up to, then if and only then will we re-elect you. For local officials, you will look out for the best interests of our neighborhoods, all our neighborhoods, whether there is great prosperity or great loss. You were elected by the people of this great community, you may not have won all the votes of all your constituents but you could next time, when you prove you are fighting for all of us, not just those who are R’s or D’s.
In education, we must do more for our children. Parents you are your child’s hero. Share your time with your child, learn every teacher’s name in that school, volunteer, and yes it will be hard but do it. For those of you who have been given the gift to be on our school board, take a vow right now you will not take any money from any political action groups who would take money from our schools to create charter schools. not one dime.. If you can only get elected by cheating our sons and daughters out of a great school system, you don’t deserve to be on the Upper Darby School Board, take a vow right now, go to your pHead of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community spreads the true message of Facebook page and announce I will not take money from PAC groups who will put charter schools first in Upper Darby. For our State Representatives, you have been given an opportunity. You have been given our trust, our hopes for the future of Upper Darby and you now have that weight on your shoulders. It is a gift though. Your life will never be the same. Upper Darby is like a small town in many ways. We will know your face when your food shopping Sunday, when you visit your children’s school and we will seek you out when we fear trouble or need help. You know hold our lives in your hands. Do not waste your opportunity on foolish pride, do not waste it by playing games with representatives who do not know Upper Darby or its people or by taking money from outside interest groups whose only goal is to create a city within our boundaries.
