On Wednesday September 16, 2015 Five Finger Death Punch along with Papa Roach, In This Moment and From Ashes To New came to Reno for a mid-week show that rocked the Lawlor Events Center to it’s core. Attendance was pretty good for a work night for most, with nearly four thousand fans rockin’ the venue.
Unfortunately due to many mix ups with the show start time and picking up my credentials, I missed the first two opening bands From Ashes To New & In This Moment. This examiner sincerely apologizes to the bands that I missed, but the show went on without me and with that said and what I heard about the two opening acts from the many concert goers that saw the bands play that I talked to said, they both killed it.
Now on with the show, Five Finger Death Punch was the headliner for this very awesome rock concert. These guys really put on a great show every time they come to Reno and this time was no different. All their fans got exactly what they came for, a rockin’ good show.
Five Finger Death Punch (also initialized as FFDP or 5FDP) is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2005, the group’s name is derived from classic martial arts cinema. The band has sold over 2.6 million albums in the United States.
Current members include, Ivan Moody (lead vocals), Jason Hook (lead guitar, backing vocals), Zoltan Bathory (rhythm guitar), Chris Kael (bass, backing vocals) and Jeremy Spencer (drums).
FFDP rocked the stage for nearly two hours and the set went something like this,
“Lift Me Up”, “Hard To See”, “Never Enough”, “Got Your Six”, “Bad Company” (Bad Company cover), “Jekyll and Hyde”, (Drum Solo), “Burn Mother F*cker”, “Wrong Side Of Heaven”(acoustic), “Battle Born” (acoustic and electric), “Coming Down”, “Here To Die” and three encore songs, “Under And Over It”, “Burn It Down” and “The Bleeding”.
During the set, FFDP frontman Ivan Moody asked all the kids that were there in attendance on stage and told the audience that this was the next generation of metal. Then he ran off stage and brought back a box full of candy and Monster Energy drinks and handed them out to all the kids saying, “Take all the candy you want” and telling the audience, “This is my favorite part of the show every night”. All the kids loved every minute of it. Every song the band played in the set was awesome, they really tore it up. An excellent performance if there ever was one.
FFDP is a must see show, you don’t want to miss them any time they come your way. This examiner guarantees you won’t be disappointed, their that good live.
Main support on this tour are rockers Papa Roach.
Papa Roach is an American, Sacramento based rock band from Vacaville, California. The formation of the band began in January 1993 and they have since sold more than 20 million album copies worldwide.
Members of the band are as follows, Jacoby Shaddix (lead vocals), Jerry Horton (guitars, backing vocals), Tobin Esperance (bass, programming, backing vocals) and Tony Palermo (drums, percussion).
Papa Roach ruled the stage well over sixty minutes and the set list went like this,
“Face Everything And Rise”, “Between Angels And Insects”, “Getting Away With Murder”, “Warriors”, “Forever”, “Hollywood Whore”, “Kick In The Teeth”, “Falling Apart”, “Blood Brothers”, “Broken As Me”, “Scars” (acoustic), “Gravity” (with Maria Brink from In This Moment), “Where Did The Angels Go”, “Still Swingin'”, “Last Resort” and “To Be Loved”.
This was my first time seeing these guys play live and I have to ask myself, what took so long. Their set was off the hook, lead signer Shaddix was all over the place as he went from the stage and all around the venue, crowd surfing from one end of the floor to the other and back again. It was awesome that during the song “Gravity” the band invited In This Moment’s Maria Brink to the stage to help out on vocals, the fans loved it.
I must say, in my humble opinion Papa Roach stole the show, a very impressive performance to say the least. You can be sure that this examiner will not miss these guys whenever they come back this way and I expect everyone that has seen this band before will be there too.
A great time was had by all.
The Lawlor Events Center, home to the UNR Wolf Pack basketball team has not had a concert there until this one in a long while, lets just hope that changes soon.
And again, I sincerely apologize to In This Moment and From Ashes To New for missing your sets and hopefully you’ll come back to rock Reno again soon.
This show was fueled by Monster Energy.

And there’s one more thing this examiner must say, it was an honor and privilege to be asked to shoot the Five Finger Death Punch Meet & Greet for this show by Reno radio personality Shane Whitecloud from Rock 104.5 who hosted the event, it was awesome.
As with all this examiners reviews and feature stories, I always say, “The photos are what it’s all about, so check out the photo slideshow and enjoy the show”.
