In just a few hours, WWE will storm into Houston’s Toyota Center for a long overdue pay per view event. The Night of Champions event will feature EVERY championship in the company being defended, including one double champion having to defend BOTH titles in the same night.
That man would be Seth Rollins. The former member of The Shield captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, then stole the United States Championship last month from John Cena. All that accomplished was putting a gigantic target on his back. Cena wants his rematch, and he’ll get it at Night of Champions. It is a rematch from last month’s SummerSlam card, where former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart caused Cena to lose the title to Rollins. Cena has made it abundantly clear he wants his title back, and plans on leaving Houston having made good on that promise.
But the bad news continues for Rollins. As that match would likely be very early in the night, he still has to come back for the main event and defend the World Heavyweight Championship against the icon known as Sting. Having been a thorn in his side since last November’s Survivor Series event, Rollins has been subjected to mindgames and frustration from the WCW Franchise. At Night of Champions, can Rollins hold on to his most prized possession, or will Sting leave Houston as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion?
The WWE Tag Team Championships are on the line Sunday night, as Kofi Kingston and Big E of The New Day will defend the gold against the returning Dudley Boyz. The legendary duo made their grand return to the company a couple of weeks back on “Monday Night Raw,” and put Xavier Woods through a table. They very quickly let it be known they were back for good and wanted to once again reign as champions. The New Day can put their names in the record books by defeating the most decorated tag team of the last two decades, or just be made a part of history if Bubba Ray tells D-Von to “Get the tables!”
One of the big developing stories in recent months has been the Divas revolution, started by WWE’s principal owner Stephanie McMahon. In an effort to boost the division and spice things up, there has been an increase of NXT Divas make their way to the main roster and make their name known. One of those ladies would be Charlotte, the daughter of WWE Hall of Fame legend Ric Flair. Recently, Charlotte came within an eyelash of winning the WWE Divas Title from Nikki Bella, and ending her reign just a few hours short of the record set by former champion AJ Lee. But a decision reversal shattered those hopes and Nikki has now held the Divas Championship longer than any other previous Diva. Stephanie however informed Nikki she would have to defend her title at Night of Champions against Charlotte. And the title WILL change hands in the event the champion gets herself counted out or disqualified.
In other action, Ryback will defend the Intercontinental Championship, and there will be a lethal six man tag match as The Wyatt Family faces Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and a mystery partner they will reveal that night. It will definitely be an explosive night of action at Night of Champions.
And getting things started will be the WWE Night of Champions Kickoff Show, presented by Mt. Dew Kick Start. This will take place an hour before the actual pay per view starts. It will feature “The Man That Gravity Forgot” Neville teaming up with The Lucha Dragons, as they team up against Stardust and The Ascension. Neville and Stardust have been involved in a feud for several weeks, and this will be another chapter in their story.
All of this goes down live at the Toyota Center in Houston, beginning at 7:00 P.M. Eastern with the Kick Off Show. The entire night can be viewed on the WWE Network, saving you a ton of money over traditional pay per view charges. This will conclude WWE’s 2015 run through Texas.
