Has the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie sequel found its director at last? It certainly seems that “Fifty Shades Darker” might have discovered the right person for the racy job, and that individual is hinted this week to be James Foley of House of Cards fame. According to TIME News this Friday, August 21, 2015, Foley may helm the sexy film adaptation, which implies that the execs at Universal are getting ready to set the pre-production wheels in motion.
It has not been an entirely smooth ride for faithful “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans in terms of finding that perfect director. After Sam Taylor-Johnson opted to bow out from the “Fifty Shades Darker” film project following the initial adaptation, the movie team appeared to have a difficult time finding a suitable replacement. Now, however, it appears that we have found that perfect card in the deck, so to speak.
Although no exact confirmation has been provided yet, it is being strongly suggested this week, notes Deadline, that James Foley has been tapped to direct “Fifty Shades Darker.” There has also been rumors swirling that he might be taking on the role to helm the third anticipated film in the trilogy, “Fifty Shades Freed,” but that remains to be decided.
Currently, we have EL James’ husband, fellow author Niall Leonard, working on the script for the sequel film. With Leonard serving as the next “Fifty Shades of Grey” screenwriter and inner goddess author EL James being a major player in the production of the movie, all of the pieces are set for the upcoming movie to exceed even the first admirable installment. Jamie Dornan will of course be back as well as the irresistible Christian Grey, with Dakota Johnson again as our Anastasia Steele. Both Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca are also coming aboard again to work alongside James.
Official negotiations are apparently still being prepared at this time. Yet with James Foley of “House of Cards” tapped as director, we fans seem to be in very capable hands. He might seem an unusual choice initially, but the man at the helm of the Netflix hit show is known for creating powerful scenes and performances in his vision. There were others considered for the directing role, including Tayna Wexler of Hysteria and Rebecca Thomas of Electrick Children, but Universal execs are reportedly focusing on Foley for now. Foley is known for striking a strong chord and bringing the best talents out of his cast, adds the press release, so this will be particularly important for a complex and emotionally stirring adaptation like “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Are you excited for the “Fifty Shades Darker” sequel? It seems that the “House of Cards” director would be an excellent pick to bring out the torn psyche of Christian Grey and the evolving layers of Anastasia’s character in the upcoming movie. More news will be provided when it arrives, but the other latest news this month is talk of the new flick taking an even steamier approach with Christian Grey than last time. Though pegged as a “thriller,” there are talks of “Darker” taking the sexual intensity of the first film to the next level, so let’s keep our eyes and contracts peeled.
