It seems that “Fear the Walking Dead” was as scary and incredible as its many fans expected. With its premiere episode breaking viewership records for a new TV show on the AMC network, “The Walking Dead” zombie spinoff apparently has some more surprises in store. Entertainment Weekly News reported this Friday, August 28, 2015, that an upcoming special will feature a unique plane episode, and a mysterious new character will also appear as a result.
As if “Fear the Walking Dead” could captivate its plentiful audience even more, could you imagine if the series had to deal with an undead invasion way up in the air? AMC is reportedly working on a tension-filled special that will take place in the same time and environment of its latest companion series, and serves as a direct connection to the companion drama.
According to the press release on the zombie series, the special will last 30 minutes and tell a unique story in “The Walking Dead” universe. It involves a gripping tale of numerous passengers aboard the plane dealing with an attack from a walker. The mysterious character who manages to live through the ordeal will then allegedly appear in the main cast for “Fear the Walking Dead” during the second season of the popular TV show. If anything, the half-hour long episode might very well be called, “Zombies on a Plane.”
It was IGN News earlier this weekend that noted this isn’t an entirely new idea, despite the fresh idea leaving many fans excited. There has been a pre-existing “The Walking Dead” web series featured completely online, but this marks the first time that the AMC network will actually use the medium to bring forth a new character set to definitively appear on the official show. It is confirmed that the attack aboard the plane is going to premiere online during upcoming episode showings.
The 30-minute special will apparently offer an interesting tie-in to “Fear The Walking Dead,” and bring in small chapters of the plane drama between commercial breaks. Unfortunately, a majority of the details beyond a new character introduction and the setting of the half-hour feature are still murky at this point and time. It is assumed that the plane itself will be flying over to LA (the location of “Fear”), though that still leaves many questions – the biggest being, of course, who this new and “mysterious” character may be.
For those fans who have seen “World War Z” and “Flight of the Living Dead,” it might not seem that seeing zombies or dealing with a massive outbreak up in the air on a plane is anything new. However, with the brilliant minds behind “The Walking Dead,” there is little doubt that this feature will be something to behold. Producers of the upcoming content, David Weiner and Dave Erickson, have said that there will be many new “twists” in store for audiences everywhere, so staying tuned is a must.
With “The Walking Dead” coming back to the small screen this October 11 and the recent “Fear The Walking Dead” companion show breaking TV records with a stunning 13.3 million viewer premiere last week, it seems zombies are very much on many people’s minds. What did you think of the first episode of the “Fear” spinoff? Are you looking forward to the new series, and the mysterious character who will eventually be coming aboard as a new cast member during Season 2?
