Today’s episode of “Farmhouse Rules,” was titled, “Treasures in the Attic” starring Nancy Fuller. She was born and raised a farm girl from Upstate New York, and she inherited a lasting love for serving and eating good fresh food. The recipes she makes are called rules that were handed down for generations of her family and filled with the foods indigenous to the area. Nancy has been a chef and caterer for over twenty-six years and as a loving mother of six and grandmother of thirteen, she is still madly in love with her ex-city boy hubby, David.
Two of Nancy’s granddaughters are visiting to help her clean out the attic and search for treasures she can hand down to their generation. She is also making Homemade Orange Marmalade and Hand-Rolled Whole Grain Crackers, Nancy’s Creamed Chipped Beef, Rainbow Roasted Vegetables, and the most beautiful Fresh Peach and Blueberry Upside-Down Cake. The last time they were in the attic, was to have a sleepover, now they are helping with the cleaning. Her daughter-in-law Annie is dropping off the two girls, Emma and Bailey for their adventure in the attic. So before they get there, Nancy is making crackers, which she said is very easy. Did you ever think of making your own crackers? Just watching Nancy makes one want to do the same thing. She is making marmalade to go with the crackers and it will simmer while they are in the attic.
The girls found an old upside down cake pan that belonged to Nancy’s grandmother and it inspired her to make a special treat for them. Nancy had a green glass bowl that was her grandmother’s too. It was called Depression glass and she just loved the bowl and the memories of all the great food her grandmother made using it. Into the oven went the cake, and then she started preparing the roasted vegetables.
For the chipped beef, she took sirloin and seared it for two minutes on each side. It truly looked good and the toast was ready alongside it, one can only wonder where the bad reputation for this meal came from. But the treasures in the attic and the recipes for this episode all came from long ago.
After they finished eating the scrumptious meal, Nancy gave Bailey a pretty pink dress, because her favorite color is pink. She then gave Emma some books, especially one that Nancy read to their Daddy many times. Don’t you wish Nancy was your grandmother, because of the food and fun on this episode of “Farmhouse Rules.”
