A commotion alerted a family in Laguna Beach, California, to a dire situation on Monday night, reported Saturday’s publication of the Los Angeles Times. An eight-year-old Chihuahua named “Eloise,” was inside of her family’s home when a coyote came in and snatched her away.
Eloise’s owner, John Fischer, was in the kitchen when he was alerted to a problem – Fischer told the LA Times how fast his little dog was taken, “I could see the white in his mouth, they’re very fast. He was gone like a shot.” A door at Fischer’s home had accidentally been left open, which allowed the wild animal to enter and make his move.
Though Eloise’s family gave chase, it was too late – the little dog was gone. According to CBS Los Angeles News, coyotes in residential areas are not uncommon. Fischer, who is stinging from the loss of his dog, has noted that pets in the area are getting attacked on a regular basis – he stated, “It’s like two worlds colliding and it’s just not working.”
