Don’t be grim – visit that museum you’ve been meaning to explore and hit up one of the exciting new restaurants that recently debuted or any that are just about to swing open their with a warm welcome, heavenly scents and new, inventive menus.
The fried chicken dance continues as DMK Restaurants, (you may know DMK Burger Bar, Fish Bar, Ada Street, mk The Restaurant, County BBQ, Henry’s, and The Rec Room) opens Arlen’s Chicken on Wednesday, Nov. 11 in Evansto. Expect a casual fried chicken spot offering crispy fried chicken nuggets, biscuits, tater tots, chicken & biscuit sandwiches, and signature milkshakes. Arlen’s Chicken should be a hit with Northwestern University students offering to-go and delivery.
Walk right up for hot dough
How sweet it is. BomboBar, located in Bar Siena, will serve foot-traffic patrons on Green and Randolph Street. The fast-casual walk-up window is now open weekdays beginning at 7 a.m. and weekends beginning at 9 a.m. The Green Street location offers coffee, bomboloni, gelato and other various Italian delicacies. Top Chef fave, Chef Fabio Viviani hopes early birds and late-night owls will crave his warm, filled donut holes.
Pizza and beer
Bottled Blonde Pizzeria + Beer Garden just opened on Nov. 6 in River North as an odd combo of a classic Italian kitchen and German beer garden. Signature pizzas and an array of of craft beers, its sheer size (holding up to 500) and picnic-style dining should insure success – pizza, craft beer and odds are a short wait for table? Stop by for Happy Hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for food and drink specials.
Hearth at The Homestead Hotel
Hearth opens its doors in Evanston’s Homestead Hotel on Tuesday, Nov. 17 promising casual, contemporary cuisine. Executive Chef John “Woody” Linton’s dinner menu features small plates (steak tartare; crispy crab cake; duck jambalaya), big plates (potato crusted salmon; chicken roulade; short rib; veggie ramen), sides (spaetzle; wild mushroom ragout; artichoke gratin), dairy land (Humbolt Fog; Nancy’s Hudson Valley Camembert; Point Reyes Bay Blue) and dessert (warm pecan tart; quince Napoleon; peanut butter parfait).
Every day is a vacation day at Coconutz Chicago
A warm Caribbean ambiance and island-inspired food and drinks come to the Gold Coast on Dec. 1 when Coconutz Chicago hulas into town. Cocktails will be hand-crafted with fresh ingredients and small plate “Cabana Bites” will be a mix of Caribbean, Asian, South American,and Puerto Rican influences. The Executive Chef is Sean Welker (Saigon Sisters, Belly Q, Farmhouse) and the comfortable eatery and bar opens just in time for the icy cold of a Chicago winter.
