Second update. Jessie had his surgery. Here is a link to a picture of him with his leg and without the tumor! The surgeons were able to save the leg. I can’t tanks Golden Paws rescue enough for their care of him! They pulled three dogs from Miami Dade who all had huge medical needs. They are a wonderful group! Please donate for his medical costs if you can.
Jessie was rescued by Golden Paws Rescue. Please donate for his medical care if you can. I plan on donating what I pledged. Thank you, Golden Paws!!
Jessie’s life is at stake; he urgently needs to be pulled from this shelter. Jessie has a horrible mass on his back knee. Yet in spite of the fact that he must be in pain because of it, when the volunteer visited with him (see the pictures), he was very happy to see her. He kissed her and cuddled with her. This is a fantastic dog! He has a wonderful, calm personality. He MUST be saved. Please, please share his story so that a rescue pulls him.
Jessie has been there for a month, and his medical notes show that as of October 25, “Pet has large, ulcerated mass on Left Rear leg that is weeping.” But from the pictures taken within the last few days by the volunteer, the wound is not bandaged, but rather left open to get infected by the filth from the decades-old shelter.
The medical notes from October 25 also state: “Pet presents for evaluation of a mass. There is a large, ulcerated mass on the medial aspect of the left hock–suspect neoplasia due to the characteristics of the mass. Recommend full workup of the mass… Depending upon the results of the workup, amputation of the limb may be required. He is a very sweet dog.”
On November 4, the medical notes state: “Humane euthanasia will be indicated if a commitment or hold is not placed or if this pets (sic) medical condition deteriorates beyond our treatment capabilities.” At that time they also noted that he had kennel cough and he was started on an antibiotic. On November 18, he was given a second booster shot but there are no notes that his leg was examined or treated.
Jessie will be killed! Now that people can see that he is injured and needs medical care that he is not receiving at the shelter, they will kill him and claim that it is because of his medical needs. Jessie might need amputation of his leg, but that is not an insurmountable surgery. I have fostered many three-legged dogs who recovered from the loss of a limb and lived happy, healthy and very active lives.
Jessie has no interest at this point. The volunteers are begging for him to be saved. If you live in the area, please offer to foster Jessie. A foster offer will save his life! Post the offer on his Facebook thread or on the Facebook page Urgent Dogs of Miami. There may be more information on his Facebook thread. Jessie is ID#A1734550. He is at the Miami Dade Animal Services, 7401 NW 74th St, Miami, Florida 33166. The shelter is open weekdays from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm and weekends from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
