Football fans will now be able to get Wi-Fi connectivity on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.
Thanks to Extreme Networks, Inc., Green Bay Packers fans will now have access to IdentiFi Wi-Fi connectivity and Purview at their home stadium, Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Lambeau Field will now offer over 1,000 IdentiFi Access Points (APs) in the confines of the stadium and also are replacing their switching technology with Summit series switches to provide the best Wi-Fi service possible to football fans and event attendees at Lambeau. The Packers have been leaders among the NFL teams when it comes to giving fans the best experience possible while attending games. The upgrades are in place as the Packers host their first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on August, 29, 2015.
“Enhancing the Wi-Fi capability at Lambeau Field has been a priority for us for a number of years,” explained Mark Murphy, President and CEO, Green Bay Packers. “We take great pride in the game day experience at Lambeau Field, and know that fans want to be able to use their mobile phones while at the game. This year, we decided to make a major commitment to Wi-Fi service, and partnered with Extreme Networks and PCM. Our fans should see a big difference this year in terms of connectivity.”
Officials also say that the connectivity upgrade will support high density requirements, that allow for high-speed Wi-Fi for everything from streaming video to uploading photos and social media posting. Fans should notice the difference immediately after entering the stadium.
“In today’s connected economy, the demands being placed on networks are ever growing,” added Ed Meyercord, President and CEO, Extreme Networks. “There’s no place where this is more evident than in stadiums like Lambeau Field where upwards of 80,000 fans are tweeting, posting, watching videos and uploading selfies, all at the same time. Our strategic relationship with the Packers evidences our commitment to helping the NFL and organizations of all sizes and industries better meet these growing demands.”
PCM’s Sports & Entertainment Group also assisted with the high-density IdentiFi Wireless addition at the historic stadium. Using the Purview analytics, Packers officials will be able to monitor and gain insight on how fans are using the network and be able to make adjustments or improvements if necessary.
It’s a big step for the Packers and even better for the loyal fan base of the NFL team. Fans will be able to Tweet about that Aaron Rodgers touchdown pass or post a Facebook selfie photo of themselves enjoying the game without worrying about getting a good Wi-Fi connection. As it always has, Lambeau Field keeps getting better and better.
