ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex (ESPN WWoS), located at the Walt Disney World Resort, will host a variety of events this fall. ESPN WWoS events include several youth events – baseball, running, and soccer, a college basketball tournament, and a runDisney race weekend themed to take advantage of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.
Baseball fans can attend the Disney Turn Back the Clock Weekend, a tournament that focuses on “old-time baseball” for teams with players ages 6-18. More than 30 teams from the U.S., Panama, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands will compete in this tournament, which will be held Sept. 4-7.
Disney Cross Country Classic, now in its 20th year, attracts athletes and teams from colleges, high schools, middle schools and upper0elementary grades, providing athletes with the opportunity to run 5K and 8K courses. Presented by New Balance, the Disney Cross Country Classic will take place at ESPN WWoS Oct. 9 – 10.
The Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Walt Disney World’s fall race weekend, includes its signature event, a half marathon that goes through three theme parks. It also feature Mickey’s Jingle Jungle 5K and several runDisney Kids Races, with distances determined by age group. The Wine & Dine Half Marathon registration fees provide access to an exclusive Finish Line Party at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. (Non-running friends, family and spectators may purchase a ticket to the party.) The race weekend will take place Nov. 6 – 7, and spots for the half marathon are now only available through runDisney charity groups and travel providers.
At the 2015 Advocare Invitational, eight men’s college basketball teams featured over 12 games, with two days of bracket-tournament play leading up to the he championship game on the third third. Competing teams include Alabama, Dayton, Iowa, Monmouth, Notre Dame, Southern California and Wichita State. Each team competes in one game per day. The Advocare Invitational takes place at the HP Field House at the ESPN WWoS on Nov. 26, 27 and 29.
ESPSN WWoS hosts a variety of soccer events each year, including competitive events for youth soccer teams. The Disney Junior Soccer Showcase will take place Nov. 27-29, a tournament that provides national competition too teams of boys and girls in age groups U11-U14. The FYSA sanctioned tournament provides two days of pool play and a day of semi-finals and finals. The event is the younger counterpart of the original Disney Soccer Showcase held in December.
EPSN Wide World of Sports Complex hosts more than 100 events year around, representing 70 different sports. Notable events include several runDisney race weekends, home games for the Atlanta Braves spring training, cheer & dance championships, volleyball, and youth football.
The complex includes, among other elements Champion Stadium, a retro-style MLB ballpark; the HP Field House, a 165,000 square-foot multi-sport indoor arena, Hess Sports Fields, which accommodate a variety of outdoor sports; a baseball quadraplex, softball complex, track & field complex and tennis complex, a media production center and the ESPN Innovation Lab; and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill.
