Adventure Cycling Association is now accepting submissions for the third annual Young Adult Bike Travel Scholarship program. This year, four winners will get the chance to participate in an Adventure Cycling educational course, win cool gear, and more.
Adventure Cycling developed the Young Adult Bike Travel Scholarship program in response to its members’ overwhelming enthusiasm and commitment to Adventure Cycling’s mission to inspire and empower people of all ages to travel by bicycle. Thanks to that support, this year Adventure Cycling has expanded the program to four winners.
Awards will be offered in two separate categories, “Intro to Bike Travel” and “Outdoor Leadership,” based on need and experience level. Both tracks are designed to support riders and cover the cost of attending one of Adventure Cycling’s education courses. Upon completion, scholarship recipients will apply what they’ve learned to an outreach activity of their choice in their own communities to promote bicycle touring.
The “Intro to Bike Travel” award is for those who dream of going on a self-supported bicycle tour but aren’t quite ready to hit the road. The winners will be outfitted with a commemorative Adventure Cycling touring bicycle, thanks to Salsa and equipped with panniers and other touring gear, courtesy of Big Agnes, Arkel, and Old Man Mountain, with bike shipments covered by Bikeflights.com.
The “Outdoor Leadership” award is for those who have bike travel experience and want to get more involved in outdoor leadership. This award is for riders interested in developing their tour planning and leadership skills by attending Adventure Cycling’s Leadership Training Course. In addition to the course, two recipients will have the opportunity to take an additional Adventure Cycling self-contained tour of their choice and receive a Cyclosource gift certificate to refresh their gear.
Jocelyn Munoz, one of last year’s winners said in her application, “Adventure outings were unheard of throughout my childhood.” After taking Adventure Cycling’s Leadership Training Course in May, she is ready to share her experiences with more young people, saying, “Because LTC is so informative, I felt like I knew what I was doing on a bike trip I [recently] led, whereas before LTC, I didn’t really know where to start.”
