It isn’t only the Loudoun County Public School System that is going to be off to an early start with its classes beginning Monday, August 31 this year. After mass registrations for Religious Education are being held now after all masses during the month of August. Many families who were away during the slumbering summer months of June and July have found their way back to the parish at this time. Quite a number of new families have also entered the RE program for sacramental preparation as well as continuing faith formation.
If you still need to register, now is the time. Also, immediate help is needed with Grade 7 on Mondays at 430 PM. Please call the Parish Office at 703-430-0811 and ask to speak with Jay Cuasay to help out.
A meeting was held Monday, August 17 in Atonement Hall for the parents and youth who will be going on the upcoming diocesan bus trip to see Pope Francis in Philadelphia in September during the World Meeting of Families. The meeting was well attended, though not all were present. The meeting offered an opportunity for youth to meet each other and the adult chaperones. It also offered parents and youth the opportunity to ask more detailed questions about the trip. This is the first time the Office of Youth Ministry and Christ the Redeemer parish have participated in this type of event. In addition, since many of the logistics for the Papal Trip are often not known until last minute, there are several details about the trip that are still TBD (to be determined).
In general, the bus should pick up our parish group from our church parking lot Friday, September 25 in the evening. It should bring our group back to the same location the evening of Sunday, September 27. The diocese has reserved lodging in Sandy Hill Camp Retreat Center in MD and will offer bus transportation to and from Philadelphia and then back home after the Sunday Mass. Pilgrims will participate in the Festival of Families on Saturday, September 26 and attend the Papal Mass on Sunday, September 27. The event is expected to draw between 1M-2M pilgrims.
The Youth Ministry Planning Committee, new this year, will hold its first meeting next week to plan events for high school youth during the upcoming RE Year. There have been a number of interested adults and parents who have joined this committee. However, more youth involvement is still needed. (Interested youth should contact Jay Cuasay at firstname.lastname@example.org.)
Looking a little further ahead, Confirmation Retreats for Christ the Redeemer will be held on Saturday, September 19 and September 26. Those participating in these retreats (and some who are going on the Papal Trip) are preparing to celebrate Confirmation with Bishop Paul S. Loverde in October. Sunday, September 20, Christ the Redeemer in conjunction with dioceses and parishes across the U.S.A. will celebrate Catechetical Sunday. Catechists and RE Ministers will receive a special blessing at the 10 AM English Mass and 12 Noon Spanish Mass as the main kick-off for the RE 2015-2016 Year.
