If you or anyone you know has nut allergies, leave the chopped nuts out of this chocolate fudge recipe. When in doubt, leave them out.
You do not need to use all semi-sweet chocolate chips. If you like use a mix of milk chocolate, semi-sweet and dark chocolate. Mix it up and make a few different batches.
If you decide to use nuts, walnuts, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts and even macadamia nuts make this fudge delicious. The use of hazelnuts and macadamia nuts, while they can be pricey, need not be much, and they elevate the level of sophistication of this classic chocolate fudge recipe.

Chocolate fudge recipe for the holidays
Ingredients for chocolate fudge:
- 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 1½ tsp. pure vanilla extract
- dash salt
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans or almonds, etc.
How to make chocolate fudge for the holidays:
- Prepare an 8×8-inch baking dish by lining with wax paper. Allow the wax paper to overhang about 1-inch on two sides of the baking dish.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk to a medium-sized, heavy-bottomed saucepan and heat on medium-low heat. Stir in the chocolate chips and a dash of salt.
- Reduce heat to low and stir mixture until chocolate melts completely into the sweetened condensed milk.
- Remove chocolate mixture from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Next, stir in the chopped nuts if you are using them.
- Carefully pour the chocolate mixture into the wax paper-lined dish, making sure to distribute the mixture evenly with a silicone or rubber spatula.
- Cool the fudge to room temperature then refrigerate at least 2 hours.
- When chocolate fudge has completely cooled and set, turn out onto a cutting board.
- Cut into small squares (about ½-inch to 1-inch cubes). Store the chocolate fudge in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
- Classic chocolate Christmas fudge can be frozen for up to 6 months when stored in an air-tight container. If freezing, wrap in wax paper before putting in air-tight container.
