When Dwayne Johnson, aka ‘The Rock,’ heard about an abandoned and injured puppy who was in need of live saving veterinary help, he made a generous donation to help make that happen, reported TMZ. The four-month-old pup caught Johnson’s eye after the rescue group, Saving SPOT! Dog Rescue, named the pup after the action star.
The pup, who is also named “Dwayne,” was rescued after being dumped at the North Central Shelter in California with a large metal wire wrapped around the bottom of his mouth – according to the rescue group, shelter staff had to utilize bolt cutters to remove the wire from the injured pup’s jaw. Saving SPOT! was able to rescue Dwayne from the animal control agency, but funds were needed to help him make a full recovery.
In an effort to raise funds to help cover all of Dwayne’s veterinary expenses, the rescue agency created a fundraiser. On the GoFundMe account, the group explained why the pup was given his name:
Thanks to some networking Saving SPOT took Dwayne in today. We named him, Dwayne Johnson “The Rock”, because he is going to need to be a great fighter to win this battle.
Johnson contributed $1,500 to help the pup, who was not only injured, but suffering from a severe heart murmur. With Johnson’s help, the fundraiser goal was met and exceeded. The rescue group has indicated that all excess funds will be used to help other dogs who are in need of care.
